I'm guessing that they aren't actually hunting every single individual the guy who said that on Craigslist was probably distributing the game. Since he commented on a Craigslist sales profile my bet is he was selling illegal copies of the game. But Activision wants to put the fear of Kotick into them.

My bet is Activision will probably go to about 100 homes, likely all distributers. I think a better approach for Activision would be to do what Nintendo did. Arrest the guy who stole the origional copy and leaked it. Then have the guy sent to prison and sue him for millions of dollars in lost sales. This will ensure that the individual never does it again.

Such a move also sends a strong message to any theif thinking of stealing and leaking a game. If they are all caught and charged sent to prison and sued for everything they could ever hope to have. It will prove a good deterent.

The 5,000$ is unlikely going to stop anybody. Yah it may get the files deleted but the individual is just going to recommit the crime the next game that comes out. Providing very big consequences could prevent future theft!
