Hmm, it's quite easy to tell who has the ball from the way the players are running/reacting, though, this might not be immediately obvious to those watching for the first time. The MLL are actually working on a technology which highlights the player with the ball (I don't know whether it highlights the player, the ball, or the head of the stick), which is meant to be used next season - the very fact they're developing this technology shows that your complaint is a common one.
