Thanks to another great week for the 360, it was able to drop the WW gap the PS3 has over it for the year to 562,032. My guess is the 360 will outsell the PS3 next week by another ~250K, possibly 300K. Which would drop the gap to ~262K-312K. Then for the last week, the PS3 should add another 80K-100K to the gap, ending the year ~342K-412K ahead of the 360.

This was MUCH closer than I had originally predicted it being (minus any possible future adjustments, of course).

I agree with this, except I don't think PS3 will cut the lead by that much last week. 360 is not having shortages this year to cripple it's post holiday sales like it did last year.

Looks like ps3 is going to win despite so many games getting delayed.

well price cuts and a gang of exclusive could have something to do with it in a year microsoft had just gears and forza and halo redux pretty much.  if ps3 wouldve lost this year sony would have had to just shut its doors.  for myself to end up close is a smh'r.  sony relies a little too much on their brand instead of marketing

True but most of the exclusives are 2ed or 3rd with most of the ones most likely to move consoles got delayed. Also like you said MS advertises more. Alot of people also seem to be saying VG undertracks ps3 so I don't know what that is about maybe it's not as close as it looks.

Considering everyone thought Xbox was going to get squashed this year they have had a great year. PS3 will still win this year despite Microsoft push near the end. Something tells me 2012 won't be so close but oh well.

I was walking down along the street and I heard this voice saying, "Good evening, Mr. Dowd." Well, I turned around and here was this big six-foot rabbit leaning up against a lamp-post. Well, I thought nothing of that because when you've lived in a town as long as I've lived in this one, you get used to the fact that everybody knows your name.

Or ...... maybe they both win because they both reached nearly peak years this late in the gen?  Eh?  Maybe???

They can't both "win", but I agree with the point your trying to get across and concede that they both had great years.

Sales wise maybe but game wise, I'm a little disapointed with Sony's games because of the delays but MSes is just pathetic.

Oh, we can.  We can.

@ Micheal-5

I'm still not buying that shortages led to a ~102K gap for the PS3 above the 360 for the last week of December.  Not when 2009, with no 360 shortages, has the PS3 at a  ~258K lead over the 360 (I would guess the PS3 price cut helped boost it an additional 158K-178K).  And in 2007, with no 360 shortages, the PS3 had a ~91K lead over the 360.  Then, with the 360 having a much better price advantage with a new $199 SKU in 2008, it only beat the PS3 by ~4K, or a statistical tie.  And more importantly, in 2006, with the PS3 not being released in most of EMEAA yet, while the 360 was, the 360 only beat it by ~33K.
