Forums - Nintendo - MrT-Tar's take on last night's Zelda 25th Anniversary Concert

As requested in the other thread, here is my take on last night's concert.  It was fantastic, it surpassed even my expectations.  The doors opened at 18:30, but I queued from about 17:50 (and I was about halfway in the total length).  In the queue, I just took advantage of streetpass, in total I connected with 164 people, allowing me to complete the remaining puzzles and finish streetpass quest, though it seems I wasn't the only one who thought to putting the Link hat on my Mii!  There were quite a few people in cosplay, mainly Link, but I also saw one of Sheik and two girls as the Twinrova sisters (I would've taken photos if the line didn't make it really awkward and inconvenient.  People came from all over Europe to see it, I heard a lot of German, Italian and Swedish accents, but surprisingly very little French.

Once my ticket was scanned and I was in the front doors, immediately to my left they were selling posters and t-shirts, as I mentioned last night they were quite expensive at £20 and £25 ($32 and $40 from XE last night) respectively; for reference, even with the weak Pound and strong Yen, I usually pay a little below that for a proper canvas anime wall scroll.  According to what I read on Neogaf, that's a 300% mark up on the LA prices.  At least the programmes were free and the tickets weren't too expensive, so it wasn't the end of the world.  I planned to buy all 3 posters, assuming that they would be £10 ($16) each, put knowing the prices I only bought the one below, which is easily my favourite:

Nintendo had also provided about 10 Wiis with Skyward Sword, giving people the chance to play some dungeon gameplay and the Ghirahim battle.  I had already queued for ages outside and inside for the poster and the concert was starting soon, so regrettably I decided not to attempt to get a go at SS.

The conductor: Eimear Noone along with Eiji Aonuma (who told us not to record the show as he was unhappy people in LA did) and Zelda Williams introduced the show.  The music was heavenly, almost no other word will suffice.  Fortunately as well, there was next to none of the cheering that wfz mentioned (there was a bit when we all had a collective nerdgasm when Koji Kondo starting playing and also someone shouted 'You're georgeous' to Zelda Williams when she entered the stage).  I have no idea why, but the London crowd was very civilised in that manner, compared to what I've heard from LA.  Here is the music listed in the programme (Koji Kondo playing Granda's theme [WW] solo wasn't listed, the surprise made it even more awesome):

1. Hyrule Castle theme (ALttP)

2. Princess Zelda's theme (ALttP)

3. Wind Waker Symphonic Movement (WW) - featuring: Legend of the Hero, Outset Island, Setting Out, Pirates, Reunion with Aryll, The Great Sea, Zelda's Awakening, The Hero of Winds, Ganondorf Battle, Credits.

4. Ocarina Medley (OoT and MM) - featuring: Sun's Song, Zelda's Lullaby, Minuet of Forest, Goron's Lullaby, Prelude of Light, Bolero of Fire, Elegy of Emptiness, New Wave Bossa Nova, Sonata of Awakening, Song of Healing, Serenade of Water, Song of Soaring, Song of Time, Epona's Song, Nocturne of Shadow, Oath to Order, Requiem of Spirit, Song of Storms, Saria's Song.

5. Boss Battle Medley (OoT, WW, ST and TP) - featuring: OoT Mid-Boss Battle, Volvagia and Dodongo Boss theme, Molgera Battle (one of my personal faves, I'm very glad this was featured), ST Boss Battle 2, TP Boss Battle 2.

6.Karariko Village (TP and ALttP)

7. Zelda 25th Anniversairy Medley (ALttP, ST, WW and OoT) - featuring:  ALttP Triforce Room, ST Field 2, Dragon Roost Island, ALttP Light Overworld, OoT Zelda Theme.

Intermission

8. Ganondorf's Theme (OoT) - featuring: That piano song that plays on the carpeted staircase, Ganondorf Battle and Ganon Battle.

9. Legend of Zelda: Selected Shorts (various) - not listed in the programme, but I can remember the Milk Bar theme and Clock Town theme from MM, as well as the Light World Dungeon, Dark Overworld and the Forest Music from ALttP.  I can also remember the Castle Courtyard/Sneaking theme from OoT as well.  I'm pretty sure the short awesome piece of music that plays when Link draws the Master Sword was also included.

10. Gerudo Valley (OoT)

11. Hyrule Field (OoT)

12. Great Fairy Fountain (various)

13. TP Symphonic Movement (TP) - featuring Title Screen, Lamentation of the Spirits, Midna's Theme, Ganondorf Battle and Staff Credits 2.

14. Main Theme Medley (LoZ and ALttP) - overworld themes for both

Needless to say, the standing ovations was truly deserved

As I didn't have a VIP pass, I left straight after the show ended.  To my understanding, VIPs stayed around afterwards meeting the orchestra, producers and Zelda Williams.  I've heard on Neogaf that they were also given a free copy of EDGE, an ocarina and a keyring.  Also, the CD will come free with Skyward Sword, so you can all listen to it if you buy the game.  If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask me.

EDIT: here is a picture of the Twinrova cosplay I mentioned.  I found it on Neogaf just now, so credit to mktauk, not me:

Awesome... so awesome.

Jealous... so jealous.

And the French would skip something like this wouldn't they?!

And Zelda Williams is pretty gorgeous... XD

Sounds like you had a great time!

I'm so jelly! - What a time to be out of the country! >:(

lol @ the guy who shouted to Zelda Williams - Wish I could've seen it

Just remembered one more song from the selected shorts as well.  It's the one that plays when Link is sneaking into the castle, this one:

I'll update my list

I actually had decided not to see the harp trailer because someone labelled it as containing spoilers.  So last night was the first time I saw it, it didn't really matter tbh, I didn't really spoil anything for me anyway.

Still, won't see the trailer. BTW, What was your favorite moment of the concert?

I loved all of it, but my favourite bit had to be the Medley played right before the intermission.  It just contained so many epic pieces of music (Dragon Roost Island is among my favourites from any Zelda game).

I'm sad because they didn't choose the Zelda II temple music.
