Somebody mentioned Obscure for the Wii. Do not trust that person. They are not your friend. I own Obscure and that is a horrible shell of a broken game.

I can't think of many games that scared me this gen, to be honest. Alan Wake started off incredibly scary but soon turned predictable. It needed better pacing. I guess I would recommend the first Condemned game for 360. It was pretty well done. There was that one PSN game that I tried. I planned to buy it but I never did. Can't remember the name of it, now. Anybody?

Siren: Blood Curse?

It was Siren, Troll Whisperer. I was posting from my phone and it took forever for me to type my post. You had already said what I wanted to say by the time I had finished.

I tried the demo and liked it (It's been a couple of years, though). Truly creepy stuff.

Siren Blood Curse seems the way to go. The only problem is that I don't want the downloadable version. I found some real copies on ebay, but they are not cheap.
And I actually own the first Silent Hill. First game I bought when I got my PS3. I did not go very far in it because I was really put off by the controls. I will give it another try.

What about Silent Hill: Shattered Memories on Wii or PS2? The Wii Remote really made the experience more immersive.

The game was never released on disc in the Americas, just in Europe. I don't know how much it would cost you to import it from the UK, but you can give it a try.

I am in the mood for a good horror game.  I have played several in my gaming existence, and now I am looking for something different.   I own an original Xbox, PS2, Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3, so I am covered for most of your suggestions.

I tried Fatal Frame I and II, but did not have a chance to play the third one.  I also just downloaded the demo from SIren Blood Curse and would like impressions from those of you who tried it.  From the demo, I like the atmosphere, but the graphics are so grainy that it's hard to see very well.  And since this game is not cheap, I would like your input before buying it.  On the Wii, I own Cursed Mountain and tried out Calling.  On the PS2, I played Clocktower 3 and Silent Hill 2-3 and the Room.

I want to be freaked out.  And apart from SIlent Hil 2, it has not happened.  Thank you fellow gamers.

Siren (PS3) is probably the only true horror game of quality this gen.  It does give you a sense of dread and dispair.  Some parts are hard to see because of how dark it is, but the far majority of the game isn't quite as bad.  If you can get a hold of the original Siren (PS2), it puts the remake (PS3 version) in its place.  It's probably one of the most difficult games I've ever played.  It's more surreal, longer, and and even more dreaded than the remake.  Then there is Siren 2 (PS2) that was only released in Japan and Europe. I live in the States and would love to get a copy of this game and a PAL compatible PS2.  Let us know what you decided on doing.

This gen has a real issue with horror games and I think I've figured out why.

You really can't make a "AAA" horror game. I don't think its possible. Same reason why you can't shoot a horror movie with an Independence Day like production. It just doesn't work when everything is so glossy and polished.

Horror games need to be dirty, unsettling, weird, unusual and come up with fresh ways to scare the players. By following todays AAA production guidelines, game companies ruin any chance a game can have to be scary.

Prime examples of AAA production ruining horror - Alan Wake, Condemned 2, Dead Space, Resident Evil franchise lately.

Prime examples of horror games working and truly being scary - Condemned 1, Amnesia, Silent Hill 2, Resident Evil 1

Every time a horror game is truly successful when it comes to getting under your skin, it is a somewhat odd, gritty and bizarre experience.

I imported my copy (Asia version) from PlayAsia for $55.  But that was when it was first releases.  It's now out of print.  I'm proud of my copy.

Well, I live in the UK at the moment so I got my copy for like $15, lol. I guess I'm not so proud of my copy.

Well, I finally went for Siren Blood Curse, the Asian version with english voices. I paid 30$ new for it. It may take a long time getting here but I hope it will be worth it.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and comments.
