I have always wondered why US and Russia have so enormous stockpile of nuclear weapons. 2000 is totally overkill ( you could destroy world many times over). Something like 100 would be easily enough to be deterrent and you would save ton of money in the process (the whole US defense budget is overkill though especially considering economic times).

Actually yes, unless they are doing this to make a bigger one.

They don't make big bombs anymore.

Why would they - it's better to make precise strike against enemy using ultra accurate missiles with multiple small warheads. That way when you win war you can use terrain nearby without waiting 600 years ;)
