Forums - Nintendo - Sega Dreamcast/Saturn Games on Virtual Console

Or Sega could just port the games. We would take the graphics, since we would know they are from older systems. Sega has Saturn games on Gametap, so we know they aren't against this.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Here's a novel idea; why not just repackage Saturn/Dreamcast games into Wii cases? Nintendo could just add a DC/Saturn emulator on the disc then sell them as if they were actual Wii games that required either the classic controller or the GC controller. An example of a game would  be "Sega Classics: Soul Calibur" or something like that. Then they could sell it a bargain rate at like $15 bucks a game or so. That way no one has to download a huge game onto their HardDrive or have a huge SD card.

In fact, this will never happen, but a company like sega could release their Dreamcast game and make it universal-- then pack in an emulator for each system (PS3/Xbox/Wii) so that the disc will work regardless of system!

That's a great idea! Make it happpen Sega!

Bet with OriGin: Within 1 year Super Smash Bros. Brawl will be ahead of Mario Kart Wii (when aligning the one whole year from each region). 2 week ban from Vgchartz for the loser. Edit: Darn! Looks like OriGin will win.

Awesome idea! I would love a chance to replay a lot of those games, and even play some of the great games that I have never been able to play, like Guardian Heroes and NiGHTS into Dreams.

Don't quote me on this, but I don't think the Wii is 7x stronger than the DC to be able to emulate it.

You'd have to recode the games completely.

By life end:

  • Wii- 100 million+
  • Xbox360- 35~40 million
  • PS3- 30 million
  • PSP- 30~32 million ------------- FAILURE
  • NDS- 85~90 million (Skeptical)  - FAILURE
  • NDS- 100 million+ (Optimistic) -- Success!

Being that Saturn emulation still hasn't been achieved, it would be better they just ported the games to the Wii.

well "who" has been trying to emulate the Saturn? I imagine maybe a couple guys who did on the side as a hobby from scratch. On top of that, this system is somewhat obscure and well over 10 years old now. There's not much incentive to work on the emulator.

I'd imagine that if Sega put together a team of full time-programmers and gave them a couple months to emulate a Saturn, I think they'd be able to do so rather quickly. Not only would they be working on it full time, but they'd have all the prototypes and dev kits that the hobby programmers had to make from scratch.

I love sega if that would happen i would by a wii. they would have to have clockwork night from the saturn though.

Yes, but how many MegaBytes are dreamcast games.... 700 , impossible to be on a SD card. They need USB hard drive.

Wii friend code:

actually Dreamcast used GD-Roms which were about 1.2 gigs if full. Quite possible on an SD card, since some go up to like 4 gigs now. but running on a disc is much more sensible than downloaded on an SD card.

I would love to use these guys for Wii-storage :)
