Forums - Nintendo - World Of Warcraft to pretty much feature Pokemon!

Alright so lets start WoW won't actually feature litteral Pokemon by name. However Blizzard at Blizzcon today announced that one of the new game features for the expansion pack Mists of Pandaria. Is pet combat. Video game media site GameKicker's article directly reveals what this new gameplay feature is.

"This is basically Pokemon. You can collect many pets, put them in teams of up to three, and you level them by having them fight turn-based PvE or PvP battles. They decided to make these turn-based so this particular aspect of the game would be more of a “thinking game.” They don’t want your pet to be killed without you realizing why. As pets level, they can learn new abilities, and you can cash in on your pet’s success by selling or trading it." - Game Kicker

Sounds alittle to much like Pokemon I have a hard time buying that the turn based aspect was anything other then a blatant rip off of Pokemon. So you can aquire these pets which you can then train and battle against other players as they grow they learn TM's and then eventually you can trade the pet with another gamer for there pet.

So far we have heard that you can aquire and collect them all, the only thing missing as far as I know is evolving your pet.

So does anybody find it whack that the worlds most successful MMO has to pretty much rip off Pokemon to make their new expansion pack worth buying? Is anybody looking forward to battling these creatures in the upcoming expansion pack? Why do you think Blizzard saw the need to introduce Pokemon to WoW?

It's Nintendo's fault for not making Pokemon MMO. There are already many Pokemon-ish games out there.

Not the same as real Pokemon - I'm waiting N...

Waiting for a free online simulator of this game like Pokemon Online.

I think they realised the highest selling JRPG was Pokemon (WoW being the second probably) and they needed to attract that audience. Absolutely the correct business strategy.

There was a brilliant Pokemon MMO called PokeNet - got closed down April 1st 2010 by Nintendo. I remember the date well - we thought that it was an April Fools joke ;_;

Seems awesome to me. Never got into Pokemon much, but maybe this is my chance to find out what made it so popular. Copying someone else's success is VERY common in the world. ESPECIALLY in gaming. Pokemon laid a blueprint for success with their turn based strategy game. Now World of Warcraft is simply adding it in as a mini game of sorts that millions of players can CHOOSE to either enjoy or not enjoy. It will go untouched by many millions, and for the ones who want to try it out, more power to them. I'm sure it's cool to jump on the bandwagon, but still, you couldn't be more wrong. Your view on this entire topic seems misinformed and misguided. I wish you luck, though.

I see nothing wrong with the OP. Your condescending tone on the other hand...

What a strange post

why cant they.

They don't want to do the software-as-a-service long term support of a game. Everything like this Nintendo have done they have stopped supporting very quickly (WiiConnect24, SSBB downloadble content, Wii's Virtual Console)

I have never played WoW maybe this will give me a little incentive to do so.

well they already have online in pokemon now so who knows how it will be on 3DS ;)

it is going to come eventually
