Forums - Gaming - Forza has not beaten any of gran turismo 5's core strengths

I can notice the slight difference in physics between forza 4 and GT5 car handling, but I have no clue which is more realistic. I've never driven at those speeds in real life and probably never will.
Both are responsive and handle consistently, that's enough for me.

Night driving and weather is not space intensive, it is computationally expensive. The frame rate dips in GT5 when you are driving behind a bunch of cars in the rain with all the water spraying up. Dynamic lighting and the shadows that come with it also take a lot more out of the gpu then pre-baked shadows and lighting, hence the rather crude shadows in GT5.
Turn 10 did not want to compromise the graphics at all at any point, thus left both out.

GT5 has one big advantage to Forza 4 though, it has 1080 lines of resolution, 1.5 times as many as Forza's 720. This makes a big difference for me. It is much easier to see the road and judge distances with the increased resolution. There is not a lot of competition at 1080p, I only know of ridge racer 7 and wipeout HD that also run in full HD. (Technically GT5 is not full HD, 1280x1080 but the vertical resolution is what counts to see the road in racing games)

Bring on next gen, I want to play Forza at 1080p.

He just pointed what differentiates the two games... Turn 10 and PD choose different paths to made their racing game... one more "sim" like and other more "game" like.

Anyway.... look like the people still like more a "sim" than a "game" for racing games (sales wise of course).

GT has a legacy and was a 10m franchise before Forza even got started. While Forza hasn't passed GT yet, the gap is closing, not widening. And GT being stagnant or declining must feel like a victory for Microsoft anyway.

The gap is closing?

For now without bundles Forza will sell less than Forza 3... and GT5 is the second fastest selling GT ever (losing just to GT3 because bundles in Americas)... and the sales GT5 is growing up again after almost one year in the market.

I'm still uncertain why night driving or weather is so space intensive that they have problems getting it on DVD9...

i'm not sure but i don't think the disc capacity was the reason for that... i think it was mentioned that they wouldn't have been able to keep the framerate stable if those features were included

http://gamingbolt.com/forza-4-does-not-include-weather-effect-or-night-racing

Huh, i just assumed it was that way, remembering the controversy with Project Gotham 4

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

This other article put the things even better.

http://ps3.mmgn.com/Articles/Forza-4-vs-GT5-Why-Forza-Is-The-Better-G

That reads like a "A can't possibly be better than B, because they are in a different market" article. Reminds me of something.

not if you count mario kart though ( thats if you don't count kart racing as a seperate genre )

No . Mario Kart is so funny... so heavly sales ... but that's the exception because no other racing game can do GT numbers.

This point can be the factor that makes the tracks in Forza looks wider?

Pretty much every game does that. It's the start of the Christmas season...what did you expect?

I haven't followed the sales of these series all that much, but I think Forza 3 was bundled and so will Forza 4; GT5 went Platinum not too long ago and we are about to enter the holiday season, so growing sales at this point in time aren't surprising, but expected.

Yeah... expected... so why GT4 not growed in the first holiday season?

GT4 didn't receive a boost in the first Christimas season... so why should I wait that for GT5?

Edit - Nevermind... the time will show what I'm saying here .

Because GT5 isn't GT4, This gen isn't last gen, and lastly are you telling me that GT4's sales didn't rise up at all during the Christmas season? I find that extremely hard to believe.

Like GT5 is rising? No. And that's the second holiday season for GT5... GT4 was launched in March... so the first one... in the second GT4 not even entered in TOP40.

But I agree... GT5 isn't GT4 .
