Play book 16GB was $499, now $299. 32GB was $549, now $349. 64GB was $599 now $399. Other tablets have been discounted as a result of the Kindle Fire threat to the market.

Get a Kindle Fire, it actually has some use unlike the Playbook, though of course it all depends on what you want to do
I reckon a Playbook might be better for work, but then again, a laptop or netbook would be better for that
If you don't have a BlackBerry smartphone, don't even think about getting a PlayBook tablet. The Play book appears to be useless on its own. Limited apps, no Android, no emails and limited support. Fire sale usually means discontinued line and possibly another HP TouchPad.

Looks like Big Business has moved to kill off the Black berry smart phones because of their faults and limited support in comparison to Androids and IPhones.
I would wait for the Kindle Fire to come out and to read the reviews at least ...
If you can wait 12 to 18 months, I'm pretty sure the market will look substantially different and $200 to $300 may be a much more sound investment in technology then than it is today.

For now!
The Playbook is being updated with Android Apps, native email and calendar support. The Kindle Fire won't actually run Android apps other than those on the Amazon Marketplace, which is more limited AND is quite underpowered
I would not be so sure about business moving away from Blackberry, their encription is very important, and as yet, unmatched by other smartphones
