Story overview: The marathon runner caught a bus to short 9.6km of the 42.2 km marathon course in Northumberland, UK. He hid behind a tree and waited for other runners to catch up. Rejoined the race and finished in third place in a time of 2 hours and 51 mins and 1 sec.

Why cheat to finish only third? Cheat to win or do not bother cheating and risk getting caught. He got BUSted.

well hes probably not the best runner, so even when he skips almost 10km, its possible that he couldnt finish first.

also first brings a lot of attention, making it more likely for his scheme to be discovered. he could have figured a couple places back would save him such scrutiny.
