Forums - Sales - Can anyone tell me whats so great about the Wii?

If the wii took videogames to the next level, its graphics, console features, internet services would all been implemented in a robust and unique way. The wii is cool and all, but the only thing that makes it different from the gamecube is the controller. Plus, I heard the controller is somewhat different to the Eyetoy's style of gameplay.

It does take them to the next level, the next level of accessibility

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

Occasionally pretentious and long-winded answers aside, it's just bloody good fun for everyone. Does it need to be more than that?

Sky Render - Sanity is for the weak.

It's the only console that plays Nintendo's games. That's what makes it good. Other than that it worthless.

It's fun because of the motion controls and IR pointer, and of course the games, such as Mario Strikers and RE:UC...those keep me and my friends busy, not to mention Wii Sports and other various games.

Also, it's fully backwards compatible with Gamecube games...so there's that. We still play Melee and Mario Kart regularly. If there's a game you missed last generation on GC, there's still a way to play.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

And the only thing that makes a conventional bomb different from a nuke is the warhead.

It's fun, new, intuitive, easy to pick-up-and-play, cheap, coming from a well-known company and makes people talk about it. It makes games accessible and enjoyable for people who may never even have touched a videogame before. And, it's different from its competitors and everything that has come before it.

 2008 Predictions:

Wii: 44 Million
Xbox360: 25 Million
PS3: 22 Million

DS: 90 Million
PSP: 37 Million

I agree with that: The wii does take videogames to the next level of accessibility.

The controller might be nifty and the price relatively cheap, but if it wasn't for Wii Sports and the Mii Channel in tandem, the Wii would never have seen success like this.

So yes, it is the games.

Credit the DS too. It helped create a ton of Nintendo goodwill.
