You don't need to get a certain amount of points, but typically 90+ points gets you a playoff spot which is 56% of the total points availble in the season. Since the season only has 96 points this year I expect 53points to be enough for a playoff spot. That is why I'm counting down. It's just my estimates.

So right now the blackhawks got 12 points from 6 wins (a win is 2 points) and 1 point from an Overtime or shootout loss (in this case they lost in a shootout) which gives them 13 points. That is number 1 right now but lets say 12 games were played this year instead of 7 and the blackhawks had a record of 6-5-1 (wins, regulation losses, overtime losses) but another teams record was 4-2-6 this team would be higher seed than the blackhawks with less wins because the OT losses gives them more points.

Home ice advantage is one thing that points help you with. In the playoffs 8 teams get in each confrence. The 1st ranked (seed) team also plays the 8th seed team. So typically the team with the best record plays a team that barely scraped by into the playoffs. The hard earned points are there to really reward teams that did well in the regular season with home ice advantage and playing a weaker team.

Actually the Avalanche are so bad I can hardly watch them. Every time I tuned in they were on the penalty kill and playing like the Maple Leafs. It was a shame. i actually was laughing by the third period.

Though when I briefly watched the Wild game I was impressed by real hockey. If I am going to survive as a hockey fan this year I will not be watching the avs.

Can't anymore. Use to be if the score was ever after 3 periods and an additonal 20min overtime period then it would be deemed a tie but now if it's even after 3 periods there's a 5min overtime time period and if no one scores then it goes to shootout till someone wins.

Its if you are tied after regulation each team gets a point in the standings and another point is up for grabs in a short sudden death OT or shootout if no one wins in OT. 6-0-2 is the same as 7-1-0 though so it was still a good game.

Didn't ou say you got center ice? I got it and am enjoying it but the sudden cut offs and blank screen during breaks is awkward. They could at least stream a slide show of last nights game or something to make it not as dull

Really? I usually get the other market commercials/ intermission shows. I find when I stream the game on my computer it works better than on my xbox. Too laggy on the xbox.
