I can't say that I'm  that surprised.  The Leafs need to make a move right now if they have any chance of sneaking into the playoffs.

Personally I don't think the effect of a new coach on the Leafs can kick in fast enough for any possibility of that happening. I'd love to be proven wrong.

From what I see (and know of the crazy fans the Leafs have) the end result of them not making the play-offs will simply antagonize Carlyle and put more pressure on him (from both fans and press) come next season. Leaf Nation is nuts. Winning 3 games in a row makes Ron Wilson an unquestionable God; losing 3 in a row makes him the target of a public snow-balling.

Actually I think it was a good move to change the coaching.

1 win out of the past 11 games with a healthy squad.. There's something wrong there. I saw the press conference with Burke and Carlyle this morning. I think Carlyle was right when he said "It's not like the players lost their skills, they just need to be re-kindled". He's so right, the players seem to have lost their spirit. Wilson just couldn't do it anymore, the way he was doing it clearly isn't working.

We can't just point the finger at the goalie right away like people love to do. Good offense comes from good defense, good defense means a good goalie. A confident one for that matter.

The thing is that after a coaching change the results are almost immediately positive in all sports.  Why?  The players know that their positions aren't safe anymore and start to work their tails off out of fear.  It could be enough to get them in.  Over a long period of time is where you find out the true quality of the coach, but that wasn't my point.

Good point. I guess this will also show if Ron Wilson was doing a good job or not. If they're trying harder now but their new coach hasn't implemented a whole lot of changes then we'll get to see Wilson's action plan in full force. If they start winning he was on the right track but couldn't get the team enthused with him at the helm. If they continue to lose... let's put it this way; if you try harder at doing the wrong thing, your results won't change much.

I don't think a win tonight will say anything of the change of leadership though. Montreal isn't exactly a tough contest this season.

I'm not liking the playoff picture right now. The Sharks and Wings better not be playing first round....

Sharks fan here...

and wings fan :(

Lindsay Lohan hosts SNL and then the Hawks beat the Red Wings (again).

Coincidence? I don't think so.

Looks like it is time for me to jump on the hawks bandwagon again. Saw the win VS Detriot which I would call somewhat lucky as they barely held on to that one goal lead for a long time. The Wings-Hawks games are always close, but anytime the wings are in a worse position it is a good thing.

The Avs most likely are going to miss the playoffs so my desire to hype the league also winders

Yotes have dropped 2 straight since a near perfect February (just a single OT loss, no regulation losses). I'm not too pleased.

...make that 3 straight

The recent performance of the c'yotes leaves the Pacific division interesting as it seems it will be a fight to the end. I will say they were at a disadvantage playing the Penguins in their recent hot surge . Dallas has been on a roll and might take over, but really I think no team will dominate that division as none of the teams have been consistent over a long period of time. Still would rather see the 'yotes make it since they have just barely missed the playoffs so many years.

Remember when Minnesota was FIRST IN THE LEAGUE? I thought they'd actually make it to the play offs this year. It's been a painful few years being a fan but I do have high hopes with these amazing prospects. Let's just hope they don't get so many bad injuries again next year.

Certainly back in the time when Vancouver was still starting out slow.  I do not know how long the signed Dany Heatly, but withouth knowing the lineup that well I think if they make  more aggressive moves towards players during the off season and get some decent draft picks the chances might go up. Looks like your guy's next game is up against the Avalanche tonight to close the season in Denver against them. I expect a tight game as usual, but best of luck to you as the avs are in the same position. The only difference with the avs as they are purposely building a very young and large team that they are trying to mature together with young talent and chemistry for the future. It will be interesting to see if it works.
