Not entirely correct. Yeah it cuts Charizard HP to 50% when it switches in, but a 50% HP cut is only viable if the opponent can take advantage of it. My Soul Silver Charizard was a fearsome foe, even with Stealth Rock in place, since he had maximum IV's for Speed and Attack and was EV trained for both stats. Coupled with his moveset, he was able to dish a lot of OHKO's even at 50% HP. 


I didn't say that doesn't happen. ;p  I've seen Charizard in OU and it can do a nice job of sweeping if it's teammates can nget rid of all his threats.

He is just outclassed by other fire poke's.  He hasn't been in anything above BL/RU since Red and Blue.

True, but the OP is related to starters, and Charizard is pretty much the best starter, especially in the Fire-type pokes (the recent trend of Fire/Fighting starters is only weakening the Fire starters status).

Wha....?

Blazkien and Infernape are amazing....

Blazkien with Swords Dance can have even legendaries running.

Hell Blazkein is the only starter pokemon to reach Uber tier.

Infernape is like one of the best Mixed Sweepers in the metagame.

And is one of those rare poke's that can use Swords Dance and Nasty Plot well.

Yeah I know, but it only happened in this current gen. I still don't know why he reached Uber status, since his moveset hasn't differed from previous gens and the TM's it can learn doesn't give him that much of an advantage over the rest of the field.

Yes.

His only real counters are Giratina, especially in Rain, and Kygore (though if he predicts ur switching in with Kygore and Hi Jump Kicks you, ur toast).

That or anything with high power + prioity move (Normal Gem+Extreme Speed Rayquaza or Normal Arceus comes to mind).

If that's the reason, then it's a pretty stupid one.

You can't get a DW Blaziken (except for the JP event, which was rare to begin with), so the only way to get a Speed Boost Blaziken is via hacking which is already bannable.

Or Arcanine + Life Orb + ExtremeSpeed. Or pretty much anything that can OHKO it in the first turn. Or Scary Face it to -3 levels with a Salamence and destroy it...I can figure out a bit more counters.
