MWF3 will not push the 360 over the ps3, in case you haven't realized it, MWF3 is also on playstation 3....

Maybe on gaming forums we treat multiplats equal. But the real world treats MWF3 VERY differently depending on the platform.

360 is stereotyped for being shooter crazy, that gives COD a much better home on 360 then PS3  from the start. LIVE and more headsets make the community/clan based online gaming junkies more inclined for the 360. COD gamers don't like to wait, so they get 360 version for early map packs. And like the Gears 3 360 custom SKU, people will buy the MW3 Limited Edition 360.

Sure people on the gaming forums treat them all equal, but the real world sees MW3 as a 360 game and all other versions are the poor mans version, despite the quality that can be actually argued. You can't argue mass market consumer perception.

I guess 42.5% of the real world disagree with you with COD being and X360 game.

Again, 45% of the real world disagree with you with COD being an x360 game.

Sure the x360 version sells better, but not by the "real world land slide" that you believe it to be

I meant the hardware boost itll give 360 in the first couple weeks of release.

But each COD having a 3 million lead on 360 still proves my point. Just shows that 45% are into the poor mans version :P

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

If Battlefield 3 that was hyped as PS3 being the better console version boosted 360 more than boosted PS3 it's safe to say that MW3 will make Xbox sales jump ahead.

I'm not saying that the 360 wont push ahead of the ps3 when COD:MW3 launches, but using the last two iterations as basis, it wont. But who knows, maybe it will,  lets all wait and see.

Although its still of note to point out that U3 just released which means the PS3 could be getting some boost from both U3 and MW3.

Oh, and just to take Dedoce's bet out of this, the 360 is going to have to outsell the PS3 by ~84.5K a week from now on just to tie with the PS3. However, I don't see sales really starting to pick up that greatly for the 360, at least to the point where it could outsell the PS3, til November. So if the gap continues to grow by 20K til, say Nov. 8th (release of MW3), then that means the 360 is going to have to outsell the PS3 by ~155K a week just to tie with the PS3. Of course, I see the PS3 outselling the 360 by at least 81K the last week of Dec, like it did last year. So, in the end, the 360 is going to have to pull off selling more than the PS3 by 189K for 7 weeks straight, starting the week ending Nov 12.

This IS impossible. Even with a price cut. I see it MAYBE selling close to that for about 3 weeks: MW3 launch week, Black Friday week, and the week of Christmas. But, it just won't be able to pull that off for 7 weeks straight. Not with the recent price cut for the PS3 (first time its been available for $250), Uncharted 3 WW, and FF 13-2 in Japan.

Just for comparison's sake, last year the 360 was only able to outsell the PS3 by ~180K one week, which was the week of Christmas. And that was mostly because of Kinect. In other words, Kinect is going to have to have an INSANELY larger impact than it did last year, when it was BRAND NEW. Either that, or MS is going to have to drop the 4GB model and sell the 250GB model for $199, while at the same time dropping the Kinect to $50 and have the the Kinect 360 bundle at $249. That's the ONLY way it can pull it off.

how did PS3 do in Nov. 2010 v 360? and i agree.

According to VGC, it looks like the 360 was able to outsell the PS3 by ~418K in Nov 2010.  Or an average of ~105K a week.

thanks bud. i think this Nov.-Dec. will be different though. smaller sells gap, and i think BF3 prooved that shooters don't mean a boost just for 360 but PS3 aswell. we know P3 will have one wk though, and black friday is anybodies guess.

ok M5. its time to revisit this. what do you think after Oct. sells where we both clearly underestimated BF3 on PS3 boosting hardware. PS3 dominated Oct. even with GEARS3 releasing that month so whats your take on the situation at hand?

I know I'm terrible at predicting PS3 hardware sales, and it's likely because I am biased towards 360. Last year Move pushed a lot more sales then I would imagine, and this year BF3 did the same thing. I thought for sure this week 360 would be > PS3, especially after then PSN catastrophe, but apparently not. ahh you found me. its not like i gave you a map or link right lol?  well on BF3 we both got slaped in the face so no since beating yourself up about  it. now we'll have to look at MW3 alittle differently. i know your bias as am i alittle but facts are facts and we had a great conversation about it and agreed on way more then most pro PS360 fans ever would so i think we're good, and dare i say better then the rest lol?

hey although bias we still can rationalize the situation at hand as reasonable as humanly possible without the usual fanboy mentality seen in most conversations like this.

I still think 360 will dominate PS3 in December, but without the console price cut it won't dominate by much. I though MS would surely do something agressiive this fall, maybe a Kinect price cut, or hard drive boost for arcade models, but that also didn't happen. well Dec has a few JRPG's coming out in Japan and then theres FFX111-2 bundle and special edition console and another RPG bundle/special edition console from level5 for PS3 and Vita may still the show as the big product to watch.

theres still time for MS to cut 360 price like maybe black friday but it likely won't do any good cause of the gains PS3 has already made and theres still the White, Blue, Red Green, and Red consoles being released in the mid to final wks of Nov.. then theres the PS3 black friday bundles which are appealing to many pro Sony fans. i'm not sure what MS has but i think they have a few bundles for black friday so Nov. sells are still up in the air but it favors PS3 now that i think about it, but not by much.

first wk by 100k to 300k with UC3 looking to sell 1m ww first wk. second wk is MW3 so you'd say it goes to 360 but after the BF3 situation i'd say the boost will even out Americas/EMEAA even with the MW3 special edition console. then wk3 the 4 multi color consoles will likely be released (i'm not sure what day but the 3rd wk sounds about right) givinng Sony there lead back as we hit wk for with PS3 still leading but likely not by much and Black Friday in the 5th wk will likely even out as well. not sure if theres 5wk's in Nov. but i think it is.

then you have Dec. starting off with the Japan boost before FFX111-2 and WW that wk goes to Sony. i'll give Sony 3 of the 5 wk's in Dec. with the last 2 even or a little lead for 360. still not sure if Dec. has 5 wk's or not.

well there you have it. the tale of the tap for whats left this holiday season.

So I'm thinking now 360 won't sell as strong as it could, and it's all because MS wants to rake in the cash. Next year, MS is due for some upgrades and price cuts, but PS3 might be able to shrink that lead to 1.5 million by then. i'm not so sure about PS3 shrinking the lead by the time 360 gets a pricecut but there are factors that could drive that to happen like that JRPG i mentiond that i have no idea what the name of it is from level5. and the special edition console that comes with it, co thats 11 exclusive up from 10 last time we did this in all its epic glory.

As for Gears 3...hey it boosted 360 sales by double, and it's remained at that level. Considering the price difference, 360 is still selling well. Next week, Sony will win in sales thanks to Uncharted 3, but the 2 weeks after, CoD and Halo, I will be shocked if 360 isn't in first by a noticable margine. Halo:CE looks to not excite core 360 fans i know. there waiting for the big gun as am i in Halo4. yea i still hate Halo and thats what i think allot of fans are waiting for but i'm still excited about what it brings new to the table. if it brings nothing then it will get bashed heavily, but if it brings something new fun and innovative then you will see the praise.

COD! seriously? did we not just learn a valuable lesson by underestimating BD3's impact on PS3 sells? never the less i'm not blind deff and dumb cause you have history and it can repeat its self. on the other hand the 360 version of BF3 still sold better on 360 in the Americas and 360 still got thrashed on the hardware side so lets not give to much credit to 360 and favor it as the winner but its likely to be that way.

We debate well yes. CoD should boost sales more then any other game this holiday. The only other comparable boost would be Black Friday, which would also be pro 360. yea your an ok debator lol. well the best this yr for me anyway. well yea MW3 should boost sells more then any game this yr., but we did have allot of good contenders for that top spot but in the end MW3 will kill. UC3 will do perfectly well in its own right looking to sell 1m ww first wk and likely staying in the 100k-300k range for sometime like GEARS3. i don't know about black friday being Pro 360. can you tell me any boundles 360 has for that day?

We're biased, but not fanboys. We realize our bias and preference in games and don't force it onto others. dito.

AHHH good point about FFXIII-2 Japanese launch in Japan. Looks like overall December may be pretty even too. That game is huge in Japan.

yep and its still bigger on PS3 in the Americas so i expect a boost from it there aswell. i found out the name of that RPG. its Ni No Kuni and that should also keep PS3 ahead Nov. and Dec. Ni No Kuni will be released in the EMEAA's and Americas in 2012. in March.

MS will likely bundle several games for Black Friday. I heard as much as 5 games will be bundled, and not too bad choices I hear. I hear Alan Wake, Halo 3 and a Fable, but I can't remember where I heard this from. hum ok. no not bad at all but  Halo3 is what 4yr's old, Fable isn't really that big, and neither is Alan wake but this gives many 360 fans that have yet to buy the console a reason to pick one up.

the thing is Sony has more resent games for bundles. games released this yr. LBP2, Infamous2, and i think KZ3 with some sort of GT5 thing going on. the 360 IMO has great bundles, but standalone sells PS3 has the better ones when talking about Fable and Alanwake, and Halo3 is older then allot of things in life lol.

MW3 is different from Battlefield. 360 has always had a stronger tie ratio among CoD fans then PS3, and with the 100k limited edition MW3 package, I'm confident 360 will sell well that week, and likely more then PS3.

yea sure, but i think i'll take a wait and see approach cause i like eating eggs cooked, not using them as facial cream. hey you still got some egg on you nose lol.

The week after I dunno. Japanese gamers like coloured consoles, but American gamers like Halo. I think 360 should edge it, but barely.

well the PSP colors sold well in the Americas, but these colors still have no release date to my knowledge for the america's.

With Halo: CEA I will finally own a copy of every Halo hehe. I borrowed Halo for PC in the past, but never owned a legit copy myself. Ahh good old ms, milking the Halo franchise. lol i couldn't agree more.

I have a history??? you know it was a typo. well it was bond to happen to me eventualy lol considering how many you had last time lol.

So, Microsoft have said, a few times, that they plan to be #1 in sales, for 2011. Sales not shipments.

What have they got up their sleeve? Are they just talking the talk? Or just bonkers.

I'll track the 360's progress against the only rival above it now, the PS3. (although I do think 3DS will go above both, not sure if MS are counting handhelds)

And this comes from a guy who thinks xbox has chance of outselling ps2 in america...

With Sony releasing the data that PS3 is trailing behind the 360 by 2 million, Microsoft might be compelled to act now and drop the price. Not only to beat PS3 this year, but to hold their lead in general.

I hope they take whatever profit they can from MW3 and the 360 limited edition and drop the price a week or two after for all 360 skus

Doubtful, most retailers already have November sales advertisements in place including Black Friday advertisements. MS dropping price would cause a pretty big disruption to retailer plans. What you will see is even more special offers in December. Just this week. Target, Best Buy, Walmart, Kmart, and Amazon all have gift card deals on Xbox 360s.  I expect that every week between now and end of the year you will be able to get a deal on a 360.

Thats just not true. For retailers, its never too late to slash down prices if it means more sales. Heck when I use to work at retail, we implemented new price cuts and price offs 1st week of December. Needless to say, we just made make shift sinages to convey the new discounted prices.

Price offs and discounts = more potential sales.

So MS works with retailer(s) for a big black Friday promotion and the retailer produces signage and advertisements including those big deals and last minute MS just drops the price.  That doesnt cause a disruption?  All of a sudden there deal hoping to bring customers in and purchase other things is negated with an across the board price cut.  It is to late for November price cut.

Also by the way Toys R Us Friday/Saturday sale advertisement for this week just popped up and 360s with Kinect include gift card so add TRU to the list of deals this week.
