Good thing Trasharmdsister made that comment on your wall or I might have just made a fool out of myself!
On topic, looking at the cold hard facts in this thread, I just don't think the 360 is going to do the impossible, anymore. I prefer the 360 over the PS3 but over 1 million? The stars have to align themselves just right for this one. A super addictive Kinect title, a $50 price drop, an amazing premium bundle, and Sony's warehouse exploding. That's the only way it can happen. Oh well. 360 may not be #1 in sales in 2011 but it's always #1 in our hearts. Amirite?

loololololol, true. who would dare to post anything after his comment in my wall?
yeah its a big number, but that season sales can be so unpredictable. i really dont see any reason why xbox360 would outsell the ps3 but i understand how big the american sales numbers are.
Well PS3 could be selling much worse and it would still be #1 for me =P

Yeah but most bundled new games are console demand leaders that are expected to drive hardware sales further and possibly encourage re-purchase of consoles. Forza 4, while no doubt a great game, doesn't fall into either category. I can't see people going out of their way to buy a 360 to get Forza nor buying a special edition to get Forza.
Forza 4, like 3 before it, will get bundled a lot after launch to encourage spread of the franchise. Hence no Forza 4 bundles for launch.
IMHO anyway.
Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Ok so I did forget about normal console bundles like the KZ3 one and such but I don't consider Special edition cosoles to be true bundles because they cost more...meaning the game didn't come free with it, just at a lower price. |
I got an 80gb PS3 with a Dual Shock 3 controller and a free copy of MGS4 AND a $100 gift certificate back in 2008. Paid $450 bucks (had an employee that let me use their 10% discount) for all of that gaming goodness! And that was midnight on the day MGS4 launched. I'm just sayin.
very possible for this to happen i dont think it would even need a price cut b/c there sales in NA are very good lately and this will likely continue during the holidays w/o a price cut i wouldnt be surprised to see YOY growth in the future NPDs even though most think not b/c of last years remodel and launch of kenict, 300-400k can be overcome on that 1M gap just on BF alone
this will be the first holiday season where we most likely wont see dominance from the Wii, where are all those potential buyers that we had the yrs past going to turn to now?, most likely the two HDs and i believe favoring the 360 more i believe they will have more marketing than sony and a shit load more bundles and added value deals especially if they dont cut the price
just look at the recent I2 ps3 bundle for $299 didnt do nothing for HW or I2 sales alot of people are over hyping that 299 UC3 bundle its not going to be massively produced compared to MS's bundles just look at the HW box art theme its the same it was for the I2. i can still find Gears 3 HW themed bundles to this day, at the time the I2 bundle released i remember it was scarce
we all know MS will bundling 2 games with there 299 package as theyve done every year and i believe with there 199 package this year(idk if they did last yr), what do we got for ps3 you have to shell out at least 299 to get just one game why no SW with there 250 package? i believe it doesnt really matter what games are being bundled when consumers especially casuals and parents that just want to give a gift a $200 HD console with SW will be more appealing

well said. i guess i'll have to view your wall to see the comment lol.
I think that the barrage of first person shooters alone will push the 360 ahead since most people buy them on the 360 and it will help push consoles.

its seems Seece is using the same broken logic used last yr. this yr there are no advantages. you could easily pare whts going to help who and cancel them out. COD boost: no point in arguing this one, but generaly not like yr's before it cancels out and the FFXIII-2 bundle will also cover this one BF3: this ones funny considering it favors MS in preorders so you'd think it would help. the bundle for the PS3 version is likely the funniest part about this bundle cause it won't help much and whts left from FFXIII-2 if there is anything left will also cancel any boost given. UC3 v Halo: yea i know UC isn't as big as Halo but it will cancel any boost given from Halo. GEARS: the price cut canceled that and FIFA. not quite the cancel but it did some good and kept sonys 1m lead in tact. 360 bundles v PS3 multi colors: i'm not sure wht else is coming out but i'm sure theres something to cancel it. If Sony/PS3 losses anything it will be a few thousand, and the PS3 lead isn't just 1m so that few 100k(i don't know wht it is cause i haven't looked) will hold off MS as it has in the past. counter it if you want, but it won't help. |
Exactly. It's the same logic that 360 fans used back when the PS3 was ~ 8 million units behind, saying a price cut and new model would only help it for a few weeks and MS would be able to mantain an 8 million and growing gap til the end of the gen. Here we are now and the gap has dropped to ~3 million. I'll admit, MS has been putting up a damn good fight, especially with Kinect last year. But that's the thing, their fight has only gone toward slowing down the gap decrease, not fully reversing it.
And all of your points stand. For everything MS has to increase sales, Sony has something in the works to counter it. So overall, sales for the holiday are going to be similar, with maybe MS being ahead by a few 100K. But, still not enough ahead to destroy an over 1 million gap the PS3 has so far this year.
It's kinda sad to see Seece's reasoning. I mean the only thing I've only seen him say is MS knows much more than we do and has faith that they can do it. However, just because a company says it wants to do something or is going to do something, doesn't mean it will happen. Just last fiscal year, Sony said it was going to ship 15 million units, but I believe they ended up ~300K short.

I know what your saying man. But there are two types of bundles. One bundle doesn't cost anything more than the usual console does by itself, this bundle is more for the games sake than anything else. The other bundle is usually a special edition console that most of the time costs more than a like console, this bundle is more to help sell consoles because the vast majority would have bought the game even without there being a bundle.
