Forums - Sports - The NFL Thread 2011: New York Giants Win Super Bowl XLVI

@amp and schunk    It is absurd, but the fact is I have never seen so many great jokes coming out of football. Ones I cannot claim like Tebow will win the next six superbowls then take the 7th off for god. Another great is that Tebow will face the Packers go down 38 to 3 then come back in the 4th quarter and tell the world he is Christ reborn. We know you have a sense of humour amp so try to have one in this case. No need to hate the Broncos because two other afc west teams have beat the bears and your star quarterback which was a gift from a horrible Denver coach to you was injured.

Must see TV tonight: Tim Tebow miked up for Bears game

Just got a sneak preview of NFL Films “Sound Effects” piece on Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow, who was wired for sound during the game Sunday against the Chicago Bears.

What struck me foremost is how remarkably calm Tebow is during what we otherwise call “Tebow Time.” Crunch time. Do-or-die time. For instance, Bears running back Marion Barber III fumbled the ball away in overtime. Pandemonium broke out on the Broncos’ sideline. Running back Jeremiah Johnson, sitting next to Tebow on the bench, went nuts. Johnson jumped up like a firecracker went off under his seat. He started pounding repeatedly on Tebow’s shoulder pads, yelling, screaming.

Tebow’s reaction? At first he said nothing. He slowly got off the bench and as he started walking on the field, he started quietly singing a hymn. Not above a whisper, but here the world was turned upside down in an instant and Tebow was singing.

Incredible calm under pressure. As a leader, Tebow is clearly confident and is firm when delivering encouraging messages to various teammates, but he’s not quite as rah-rah as I thought he was. This is the NFL, after all.

Two cool moments: He’s sitting on the bench next to quarterback’s coach Adam Gase. “”Why do we have to do it this way?” Gase asks Tebow, referring to how the team is forced to continually rally from behind late.

Tebow smiles, put his right hand around Gase’s shoulder and says: “”It’s allright. We’ll figure it out, man.”

Another moment comes after Demaryius Thomas lets a long Tebow pass slip through his fingers. Thomas then, and later, said he short-armed the ball and he should have caught it for a touchdown. After the incompletion, a bummed Thomas is on the bench. Again Tebow is sitting to the left. Again, Tebow puts his arm around Thomas and says: “”You’re good. Hey, no big deal. It just makes it closer for a little bit longer. You’re about to catch the game-winner. And then you’ll be the hero of the game.”

Thomas did make two big catches in overtime to help set up Matt Prater’s game-winning field goal. Tebow’s sounds will be shown tonight on the NFL Network at 7:30 p.m. and midnight MST, and also on ”Inside the NFL” at 7 p.m. tonight on Showtime.

No matter what people say Tebow has a weird way of brinnging confidence to people and an almost inhuman way to keep his nerve when everything is against him. Now I am done posting on Tebow, but if it was your team you would be happy too. Also the media is milking the Tebow story because that is what is getting them veiws. Teams having great seasons is nothing new, but having a back up quarterback come in and turn a team around the way he has and to remain humble is not a story you will hear very often in your lifetime.

Funny we have to still explain what truly happened in each Denver game to Rol. The Broncos games are now fought over by abc, fox and nbc because Tebow = ratings. CBS barely kept this weeks Patriots-Broncos game at the normal 2:15 PM start partly because the Patriots were crying for it to remain that way (it would be a very late game on the east coast). NBC is mad they are still stuck with San Diego and Baltimore.

Eh, it's getting clearer every week that Tebow possesses the three German traits of sport: Glück, Schwein and Dusel. That's all there is to it.

I will look those terms up and get back to you. It will help me learn hungarian and I might look up a few cuss words to tell you how it is.

So he is happy, unethical and lucky. Well, I would agree on the first and last part, but unless we are calling his countless hours of charity work out, I can hardly agree he does unethical anything. If luck was so easy to make I would be Sultan of the United Arab Emirites, live on my man made island and have 10 wives and countless concubines. Fact is, it will never be all about dusel because otherwise people would not be so glued in and shocked at what has happened.

Ostoba Rohad s you are a Sunyi gazember.  Best I can do at short notice and hopefully it is not too insulting as I am not aware of local customs.

A more accurate translation would be "luck, big luck and dumb luck".

@chocoloco... lol that video and info on the sound bites is so funny. However, I'd have to say that even though they've won big comebacks in a row... they've only played teams that just aren't great.

Oakland, KC, Jets, SD, Minn, and Chicago. All teams that are simply not top tier. Mediocre to ok teams. Had Chicago not been plagued by injuries... we'd probably not have lost those last three games. I did state "probably".

Denver is just not a Superbowl contender, but a team that has a very good kicker, good defense and other supporting cast, and a lot of positive momentum due to Tebow.

This Sunday will be the best team they've played since they lost to Detroit. They'll lose this and probably win the next two. Then it will depend on who they meet in the first round of the playoffs. They definitely won't make it to the conference championship.

I'd rather make a big deal out of the Texans than Denver. Texans really surprise me with how they've handled the injuries. However, at this point, unless there's an injury, I'd hand Greenbay the trophy now. For the sake of argument though, if Denver does make it to the Superbowl... then I may just have to make a Vegas trip and throw downs some cash on Tebow.

EDIT: after consideration, Jets are a good team so Denver deserves props for pulling that one out. Well, they deserve props for winning all of them, but rest should take into consideration who they beat... not just a win.

Does anyone else have a problem with the fact that Tim Tebow is getting all of the media attention now? I mean come on, the first ten minutes of Sportscenter is dedicated to him, on a Wednesday! Where's the talk about the Packers going for an undefeated season or the discussion about how the Texans keep winning all of their games in spite of the plague of injuries that they've had? Kordell Stewart was talking about how the Texans were flying under the radar yesterday since they are in a small market. What??? Houston has the 4th biggest population in the US last time I checked. I'm guessing that he didn't major in geography.

Come on, I know that the Broncos are a nice story, but honestly there's other things to talk about.

Hate to say it but despite all the Texans achievements , the reason for a lot of people why the Texans are making the playoff is that Peyton didn't play...

PS : Houston is the 4th biggest US urban center but it has almost no suburb.( 10th in urban area ranking which include suburbs).

Okay, we'll play it your way.  We'll say that Houston is the 10th biggest market.  Considering that there are over 30 cities in the league that would put them in the top third in terms of market, wouldn't it?  Where does Denver rank?  Why aren't they flying under the radar?  :p

The Chargers really need to win this week. Not just for their sake, but especially mine.

It looks that way, doesn't it?

I want the Chargers to make the playoffs, because that would put an end to Tebow-mania.

And, of course, chocoloco would change his avatar to a non-football one again. Just like earlier this season when the Broncos were 1-3 and he had given up on the team. He only supports them as long as they win.

Not going to happen...........

The Ravens haven't lost a home game this season and they can't afford to loose one with Pittsburg breathing down their neck...

That game is going to be a sackfest for the Ravens ( the Chargers have had a lot of trouble protecting Rivers this year).
