Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

Though system power is a limitation to a point, there's far more limitation in the form of a developer's time and resources available to optimize. You can be certain that most of the games on 360 and PS3 right now are far from optimized, and are actually eating up more resources than technically necessary to render them. The most egregious offender in this case being the likes of Oblivion, of course, with its practically traceable filtering effects masking on top of each other, one after another.

While I don't know if you could get CoD4-quality visuals to work on the Wii, you could certainly come closer than a lot of people realize, with proper optimization techniques.

Sky Render - Sanity is for the weak.

The Wii has a long way to go graphically so we'll see lot of improvement but Cod4 level? Probably not. Also 360 and PS3 will continue to improve as well.

@Kirby - you're probably right.

Take one look at Farcry to Mario Galaxy and you'll see a little of what Kirby007 means.

Not only was COD4 graphics good but it was in DD5.1! I wouldn't want to play this game without DD5.1 as it clearly added to the experience.

CoD4 already runs in 600p.
If x360 couldn`t hold that game in 720p, i doubt Wii will be able to do that even in 480p.

Every 5 seconds on earth one child dies from hunger...

2009.04.30 - PS3 will OUTSELL x360 atleast by the middle of 2010. Japan+Europe > NA.

Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.

Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.

1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.

PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.
PS2 2001 vs PS3 2008 sales numbers =) + New games released in Japan by 2009 that passed 100k so far

I think this is ensured because I don't really think many developers have pushed the boundries of what the Gamecube could do (let alone the Wii) ...

Factor 5 with their launch game Starwars Rogue Squadren 2: Rogue Leader produced one of the most impressive Gamecube games, and then surpassed it visually with the sequel Starwars Rogue Squadren 3. From what we have seen so far, few third party Wii games have approached what Factor 5 was able to achieve initially on the Gamecube, and when developers are (finally) producing highly optimized graphical piplines with graphical assets designed specifically for the Wii it should be a very major improvement over what we have seen so far ...

Sorry, but if anyone says "this game graphics look good", then by default it can't be done by the Wii. Simple logic.

On a more serious note, I'm with Yojimbo on this one. If even the PS2, that lacked many graphical technologies and horsepower, had games comparable to GC and XB, then the Wii, that (probably) only lacks the horsepower, should be able to have games comparable to PS3 and 360. The only thing is that maybe Nintendo will never unlock the HD resolutions.

@Smidlee: off-topic, but ok. What he was asking is whether the Wii will be able to handle the type of graphics that PS360 are doing right now, in several years.

Personally, I think that a 'graphics-wizard' company like Infinity Ward or Square were to really focus their efforts on optimization, it could be done in 3 or 4 years.
