Forums - Gaming - Pay to play, would you stay?

Simple enough question if you had to pay for the PS3 online access would you? How much would you expect it to cost. What kind of service would you expect for the fee. What would you expect to lose if you did not. All interesting questions especially since Sony seems to be asking them of their asian customers. The question is to those who own a PS3 how would you feel if your free service, became a pay service. Technically Sony is aloud to start charging for an advertised free service review your terms of service. They really do have a blank check to do what they want. Ask those that have played Sony's online gaming in the past. Anyway what are everyones thoughts.

Reports suggest Sony could be considering charging a subscription fee for some parts of its PlayStation Network service - a la Xbox Live.

CVG cites a questionnaire sent out by Sony to PC gamers in Asia asking them whether they would consider paying for some elements of the PlayStation Network.

The payment would take the form of a monthly subscription fee - according to the questionnaire - although it's not clear what benefit there would be for the gamer.

Nervous PSN members should probably calm themselves, however, as a questionnaire for the Asian market is hardly damning evidence that subscription charges are on their way to the west.

I only like paying for my Internet once, so no I wouldn't pay for the service at all.

IF the service went to a subscription thing, then demo's, patches, and online play should be free, the things they can charge for is faster download speed for demo's and patches and other non game related things such as movie content.

 100% Agree with you.

 2008 Predictions:

Wii: 44 Million
Xbox360: 25 Million
PS3: 22 Million

DS: 90 Million
PSP: 37 Million

Shocked by the disinterest in this topic. Should the subject line have been something more provocative? This topic should be leading to a fantastic discussion.

PSN would have to offer the same level of accessibility from within games as the 360 and would have to include the same crossgame interaction at the very least. Otherwise, no.

Thank god for the disable signatures option.

Well if anything Dodece you would have to blame yourself for bumping it.

On Topic: No I would not pay for Xbox Live PSN if you had to pay.. OH SHI-

But seriously, depends on the price, features and benefits. I can't say anymore with such little info.

If it was as tightly-integrated as XBL and roughly the same price, I wouldn't have a problem with it.

The system needs a lot of work before it gets to that point, though.

No, I've never paid for any online content and never intend to.

Since I already have the system I would pay, but if i didn't have it already then I don't know if i'd want to buy it. Thats one of the big reasons I haven't bought a 360 yet. It claims to be cheaper than PS3, but throw in the cost of the internet and it costs about the same, or more.

No. Don't have a PS3 yet, but to me internet play should be free. It's why i'd never get Xbox live and why i don't play MMORPGs.

I like to buy things. Not to rent them.
