I cast some doubts on those numbers. Major Nelson said "[Gears] sold more than three million copies in its first week since release"(September 29th 2011), that is seven days after its release (September 27th) it has sold more than 3 millions. Thus or it is overtracked or the first days of the second week were underwhelming (otherwise he could have said 3.5 millions or something like that).

When arnt you doubting something 360 related, seriously, so transparant. Anyway, anyway BOTH have 'more than 3 million' so no ... not overtracked.

I don't want to derail the thread, so this is my last post in this thread. I just want to point out a few things, first of all, Major Nelson's post (september 29th):

"Following more than 22,000 midnight madness launch events, Microsoft and Epic Games today announced that the Xbox 360 exclusive sold more than three million copies in its first week since release, cementing Gears 3 as the biggest game of 2011 and catapulting the franchise beyond one billion dollars in lifetime sales.

In just one week, Gears 3 has already grossed more than any 2011 video game to date."

I stress that "its first week since release" =/= "its first week", "its week of release", "the week it was released".

Second thing: the last time I questioned some numbers was just a year ago, when I said that the Halo Reach first week sales were probably overtracked (I said that because a MS press release said it made $200m worldwide in its first day, while Halo 3 made $170m US alone in its first day: the numbers didn't add up): well, the funny fact is that you (over)reacted just as you did today and I quitted the thread. A month later, NPD numbers (that is US only) showed that Halo Reach had sold 3.3 millions in 3 weeks, while Halo 3 sold 3.3 in just two weeks (according to 2007 NPD).

I'll bring back this discussion when NPD release its numbers.

On the day of our numbers Cliffy B himself tweeted out 3 mill article. Major Nelson/Microsoft said more than 3 mill, you seem to be glossing over that, that doesn't mean it didn't sell over 3 mill in the first 5 days ......

Also, our first week Halo: Reach numbers havn't been changed, seriously, you're still pretty obvious as one of those Xoj types.

I think around 1.25m

If it follows normal trends I'd expect around another 1m sales this week.
