That doesn't sound like a good thing, mainly because we'd have Apple fans involved in our pointless arguements. *shudders*

On the Fire , I hope it succeeds where other tablets have failed, or at least, stays profitable and another choice.

Anything that steals market share from Apple is good by me.

It doesn't really seem to be trying to compete with the Ipad. The Fire looks more like it's going up against the Barnes and Noble $249 Nook Color.

i might get one, i already use amazon's cloud music service quite heavily. now that netflix sucks i might try out amazons prime service as well, at least for a free month. ..and at $200 it is pretty cheap to me. so yeah, i want more info but i'm much more likely to get a fire then an ipad or the other competitors at this point.

At first I was very impressed, but other than price, there are some issues I have. Personally, I already have a Sony Tablet S and I mostly use it for videos, internet browsing and controlling my tv... (as well as email etc)

So this tablet is all about streaming, which means you can only use it in good wi-fi zones, especially as it only has 8GB of space. However, the streaming is quite cheap, though it is US only, so I can't use it myself to find out the range of content

My greater concern is that it doesn't really run on android, so there might me a lack of apps, and there are still questions to be asked about things like calendar, email and maps. But I think it will do a good job as a $200 multimedia tablet

The nook color is more like a tablet instead of just an e-reader, like the fire. The regular Nook(with e-ink) is just an e-reader, like the regular Kindle (with e-ink) is just an e-reader.

They both have 8GB of memory, but it would've been nice if Amazon had put a card slot on the device. It has cloud streaming, but the nook color has a micro sd slot so storage is expandable up to 40GB (8gb internal + 32gb micro sd card).

The nook color released Nov. 2010, so there are many rumors of a nook color 2 to be released sometime in the near future. If I was looking for an Android tablet, I'd definitely wait until the nook color 2 was released and compare that with the fire to see which one is better.

I think it's a step in the right direction for Amazon.

For the past several months I have been saying (every time a tablet has been released to compete with the iPad) that most companies in the tablet market were being foolish because they were trying to beat Apple on Apple's terms. I said several times that I thought that, with $100 no-name tablet/ebook-readers/media players already on the market, some of these companies should have been targeting a $200 to $300 price-point even if it meant that the system was far less advanced ... When I read about the Kindle Fire I thought "Finally someone gets it!"

While I could be wrong, I think there is a massive market of people who are interested in an ebook reader and could be upsold to a $199 tablet or people who are interested in a tablet that are waiting for them to fall below $300. Even as a gift the Kindle Fire seems to be in a fairly ideal position, after all the number of people who could justify giving someone a $200 device as a gift is far greater than the number of people who can justify giving someone a $500+ device as a gift.


I may come to regret this, but I could easily see the kindle fire becomming the best selling tablet on the market

I agree on the features but isn't it relatively cheap already?
