Modern studios need constant support, Heavy Rain creator says

The founder of Paris studio Quantic Dream says he already feels loyal to Sony and would be tempted if the PlayStation company ever made an acquisition offer.

David Cage told Develop that the studio has signed another exclusivity deal with Sony.

He said the studio was building “something exciting, something different. Hopefully it will build on the foundations of Heavy Rain, but go forward in a very, very, different way.”

Asked if he’d like to take the relationship one step further and be fully owned by Sony Worldwide Studios, Cage said “of course I would. Of course. I really like Sony, honestly I do. They’ve made some bets with developers like Fumito Ueda and Media Molecule. I kind of feel loyal to them.”

Quantic Dream remains independent from external ownership. It has in the past used publisher funding for projects. But today, he said, the industry is in a position where studios need constant support.

(Also earlier in the year/late last year there were rumors that QD's new game might go multiplat, but this article confirms there next game is a PS3 exclusive, or at least Sony exclusive.)

What games have they brought out aside from Heavy Rain that is .. well.. well-known this gen?

Still not 100% sold on QD but it wouldn't be a bad thing if it happened.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

HR is the only game they've released this gen. Last gen they released Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy on the PC/PS2/XBOX. They've only released 3 games in total since they were founded in 1997. First actual release was in 1999 (Omikron for PC and later Dreamcast).

too soon for that..but I'm happy to see sony maintaining a good relationship with them..can't wait to see the next title

I thought it was laughable that developers had a good relationship with Sony?

i think it would be great. heavy rain was a good game and rated top 10 or 5 in the ign top 25 ps3 games which is debatable but why not? pretty much all ps3 exclusives have been good in my eyes so keep them on sony side and keep them away from xbox

do it! the more studios sony has the better chance they have of claiming the next generation!
