Forums - Gaming - FFXIII-2 Trims Game Length to Add More Than Just Battling in Narrow Corridors

Just days ago, we learned that, unlike the game that came before it, Final Fantasy XIII-2 will only be one disc on the Xbox 360, something that sounds absolutely impossible after seeing Final Fantasy XIII‘s three-discs. This has raised some suspicions as to the length of the title, and how much content will make it into the sequel. We’ve known for quite some time that FFXIII-2 will bring new engaging features to explore other than running through narrow corridors battling monsters, but will it come at an expense?

During this year’s Tokyo Game Show, Motomu Toriyama explained that FFXIII-2 will be considerably shorter than its predecessor. However, he empasized the fact that the game will include a multitude of mini-games, collectibles, additional set-pieces, and more gameplay items to make the game feel more well-rounded and less linear.

FFXIII was an extremely long game, requiring a minimum of 50-55 hours for the average player to complete the first time through. Trimming that down a few hours and throwing in content outside of the decent combat system is a solid move by Square Enix, and hopefully the length isn’t sacrificed to the point of making it feel like one giant mini-game.

So instead of having 5 Ft. corridors it will have 15 Ft. corridors?

Much shorter but with more varied content?
Meaning I get good gameplay AND have to spend less time with serah and all the other wastes of space?

They are actually trying to sell this to me, and successfully!

It doesn't matter. This is going to be concerning for some fans and piss others off.

... This scares me, I hope the game isn't much shorter at all, I mean, I atleast want 30-35 out of it :(

The game has multi-endings, You'll have to beat it more than once if you want to go through everything .

Yeah...so please one part of the fan base and piss off another part. Good job moron.

55 Hours for the average gamer. Damn it really sucks being above average >.>

FFXIII-2 5 hours confirmed. and 4 hrs 30 mins of that will be in a casino.

thats good if the game is

I hope he didn't actually mean the story, cause Final Fantasy XIII's story was pitifully short compared to what came before it. But if he means the game's pacing and keeps the story atleast as long as Final Fantasy X-2 then I think we might have a win on our hand (Though if they cut the story up to make Final Fantasy XIII-3 I'll be pissed).

I can deal with it if the game is as long as X-2 which was roughly 25-30. If it is anything lower then 25 i'm going to rage.

well, now I'm convinced not to even bother getting a used copy lol.
