Anyone who thinks Nintendo is going to buy giant developers is thinking like Sony, not Nintendo.

Agreed, although I do think buying small talented dev teams could be a successful idea.

If they're cheap, sure. Don't expect any purchases much bigger than Monolith (As in, small AA teams), because it just isn't Nintendo's MO.

People, Nintendo isn't financially dominating the industry by acting like this, and buying up companies because golly gee, they have a lot of money and why not spend it? They got where they are -- absolute and total financial domination, anyone who would like to claim otherwise will be eviscerated by empirical evidence -- by being careful, precise, conservative, and financially ruthless.

They did not get where they are by spending tons of money and bragging about how much money they spend. Don't expect that to change now.

I agree, but I also think Nintendo recognizes that the market and their position has changed significantly.  I think they will be trying new things, maybe not quickly, and definitely not agressively but I do think they will look to make a few moves and as always they will look to make the absolute most out of their money.

The one thing I hope they spend the money on is advertising games.  They are so bad about this that its beyond frustrating.

making more Nintendo franchise game, and faster.

making a DS 2

After all they should form the original Rare back together, that would be nice. But to be realistic, they should, as said, save most of the money. No one knows how things will become, but at least they should have a "cushion" for rainy days. The rest, I guess, they will put into small/new developers and that's a good thing. Also they will need some money for the future and I'm very confident that with Wii2/DS2 it will be another big step to Virtual Reality and that won't be cheap.

But if they really clone Shigeru, I want them to send me one for nice commentaries while I play ^^

buy their own island, make it look like a mario game

Buy Sega...
...or Hudson

The mention of certain developers and the word 'Rare' just a couple of posts above lead me to one thing they should do:

Get Free Radical!

Exclusivity for Timesplitters 4 on the Wii, and all your Halos, Killzones, Resistance blah blah becomes completely irrelevant ;)

That aint no opinion either, TS4 on Wii would be the reincarnation of Goldeneye, and it would be amazing haha.

they should buy sony just to piss sony fanboyz off, and then make a big party with women and alcohol.

Buy sega, capcom and square enix. Also I think Konami would be a good bet but I doubt that would happen

Invest in tournament play. Strikers has good online but a true tournament for money would have brought so much more to the replay of the game.

Brawl will probably have tournaments and stuff, but other big games should also have tournaments ending with prizes and/or money. That is exactly where Nintendo should put some of their money.

@Highway:

I could see Nintendo buying Sega--the house that Sonic built (and subsequently demolished) is not looking too hot right now, and they probably wouldn't be overly expensive. It wouldn't be 'the best thing ever', but their only good games (save Virtua Fighter and Tennis) that have come since the Dreamcast have been Nintendo exclusives. Ironic coming from bitter rivals, hm?

But Square? Don't kid yourself. They wouldn't even sell when MICROSOFT tried to buy them out. It doesn't matter how much profit Nintendo is making right now, their cash reserves don't flow NEARLY as freely as M$'s.
