Its not just adding HD. Its adding a ton more power overall, new online features/content, new controls, ..

Hell I'd be willing to wager large amounts of money that the difference between Wii and WiiU is significantly greater than the differences between PS360's successors.

What really makes me sad is not how wrong he can be or how much he tries to prove that he was right, but that he earns more money that all of us together saying this bs.

In other news, PS3 is a PS2 HD! No but seriously this is good news, we can play Wii U games on our Wiis that's pretty cool!

Lol, at all of the posters making themselves look silly by disagreeing with Pachter when he is right. You need to realize that if you disagree with Pachter on a business issue YOU ARE MOST LIKELY WRONG. He is not always right as his 3DS predictions prove, but in general he sees the heart of the issue on business topics.

Ok so you just explained it perfectly. In the eyes of Pachter Wiiu doesn't do anything that can't really be done on the PS3 once the Vita is released. To Pachter if the consoles of this gen can produce the same experience with pretty much the same graphics capability then it can't be considered a new console of the next generation.

To Pachter Wii is still being considered to be part of this generation and to be honest I agree with him. Even though I will buy the Wiiu at launch because I love Nintendo Wiiu isn't a huge gen gap from the PS3. Its not even comparable to the graphics  gap from P21 to the Dreamcast. Even the gap from ps2 to Wii was higher respectively higher. 

Jesus, his statement was taken out of context completely.

First he always says that knows nothing about technology or electronics manufacturing, but he understands (supposedly) business models and how the market works.
Thus, within the context of the answer he was going it meant that the WiiU is not a next-generation consoles, which will only be released there around 2014.

I love Pachter. I not always agree with his analysis but on average he is very wise. His weekly show on Gametrailers is incredible and I've watched every single episode.
