padib said: Just wow. This guy has his definitions all wrong... New hardware (cpu, memory, graphics device) architecture = new console. Same controller =/= same console (PS1 to PS2) Backwards compatibility =/= same console (PS1 to PS2) Generation catchup =/= same console: If Ninty was behind a gen or half a gen, its catchup doesn't make the new console less of a new console. It might not be next gen, but it is a new console. New games not compatible with past console == new console Stop patching up Pachter. Your grave is only getting deeper.

Ok so you just explained it perfectly. In the eyes of Pachter Wiiu doesn't do anything that can't really be done on the PS3 once the Vita is released. To Pachter if the consoles of this gen can produce the same experience with pretty much the same graphics capability then it can't be considered a new console of the next generation.
To Pachter Wii is still being considered to be part of this generation and to be honest I agree with him. Even though I will buy the Wiiu at launch because I love Nintendo Wiiu isn't a huge gen gap from the PS3. Its not even comparable to the graphics gap from P21 to the Dreamcast. Even the gap from ps2 to Wii was higher respectively higher.
