Forums - General - How do you deal with a bad cold?

I ask this question because I seem to have caught a pretty bad cold.

I sound like a wheezing zombie when I'm breathing, and swallowing is a real pain. One of my ears keeps on clicking and I feel really cold despite wearing a few layers of clothing :( That's without mentioning the phlegm and other fluids that I keep having to get rid of.

Enough about that though- what would you suggest to keep my mind off it/getting rid of this cold :|

Thanks :)

getting rid of the cold: listen to what your doctor said stay in your warm bed with your hot drink.

keeping your mind off it: google girls in yoga pants.

Drink loads of warm drinks like teas (so many types I'm sure you like at least one), hot chocolate (if you can taste, makes you feel better as well) or warm milk (especially at night, it makes you sleepy) and put honey in it. Sounds silly but honey is really an amazing substance. It can help with healing and makes you less irritated. It will help with your throat.

But yes you should try to have some meds too, there are some hot lemon drinks, syrups and such. I always find that the worse it tastes, the more effective it is.

Yeah anyway, there's two options there, one more natural and the other meds. You can do both, I feel it's really helpful and keeps you warm. Coocoon yourself in blankets too! If those don't work then go to the doctors. Really you shouldn't bother them for such things as colds unless it gets a lot worse and been there for a while.

As for keeping your mind off it, watch light movies, some comedy perhaps, or listen to audiobooks. It's really hard to keep focused so do something pleasant but that doesn't require much attention. ^^ I often have colds so I got a lot of experience with it, I can tell when I'm starting to have one (left side hurts and throat gets itchy). Hopefully you feel better soon!

Being British, I'm not unfamiliar with the brilliance of tea :p I don't normally drink it that often, but my parents drink around 3 cups/day each - currently drinking my own :)

Thanks for the advice everyone

- Do: Stay in bed and rest. Take in as much fluid as possible. Stock up on vitamin C.

- Don't: Go to a doctor.

In fact, going to a doctor is one of the most stupid things people do for colds and flu. They can't help you, but you go there for some cure and then they prescribe some meds that harm you more than they do good. In addition to that you put your body through extra stress with the travelling and enter an environment full of bacteria and viruses that could harm you further. All of this and then you pay the a bucket-load to do something a 12 year old can do.

My sisters a doctor and she freely admits this fact.

Black Tea isn't the best, as it'll keep you awake and restless. Try getting Rooibos or herbal tea. Also, no sugar or milk!

When I get sick, I stop being sick and be awesome instead..true story!

Weed. Get stoned enough and you won't feel sick anymore. Might make lung symptoms lightly worse though.

If you can't get weed, something else I do while I'm sick is eat healthy and drink lots of water.
