Forums - Sales - Can the Sony Vita resist the 3DS storm?

as a 3ds owner there has been a drought of games! but ive only kept the thing because of super mario world and mario kart and obviously Pokemon. right now i don't know if im getting a vita when it's just basically a portable ps3! im still on the fence about it, and to answer the question i don't know since sony has lost monster hunter it will be difficult for them to claim japan but they have call of duty so amercia should be fine

Also, having a system seller is definitely key to any system success. An IP could likely be killer APPS is good and might turn into a system seller. However, there is no guarantee all killer APPS will sell hardware. well tell me wht a system seller is. make sure its a game that you and i know about that hasn't released yet and it has to be a new ip.

What you asked me to do is exactly what I'm arguing against though. Since you can't predict a new IP to become a system seller, it is safer to bet on an existing IP like MH or Mario or KH etc.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

The 3ds storm??? The 3ds had a dismal launch, it had a forced price drop because it was selling so bad. It has an identity crisis and the worst add-on in history that needs an external battery. Like the wii U nintendo do not have a clue what direction they are going in. The 3d is useless and right now the games library is pathetic from 1st party. Monster hunter 4 has not been confirmed as a 3ds exclusive. I dont see why it wouldn't come on the vita anyways.

They have some killer 1st party franchises but still no mention of 90% of them.

The 3DS did not start as expected but his launch was not dismal. By the way it is going, the 3DS will be over 10 millions when the Vita is released everywhere. That will be a huge gap. I don't think a console has been able to fight back such a big gap in the history of gaming.

The DS was still selling well and you know that now with the same price, the 3DS is going to take all of this sales. It is going to sale millions worldwide in december with the massive blockbusters and the appeal.

The games are coming at the end of the year and newt year, the price has dropped, the holidays are coming. Vita will launch just when the 3DS will start to peak and will start doing awesome number.

Monster Hunter 4 will be at least a temporaru exclusive and that will hurt Vita a lot in Japan. PSP was able to survive in Japan based on the fact that they had the exclusivity of the portables versions. Vita does not have even that now.

ok we both understand eachother right? (i was actualy woried for a minute that i mite have confused you with my rambling lol)

ok the thing is i don't believe there is a system seller. my thing is how do you predict a system seller. you won't know until the system sells and theres a game that matches those numbers to varying degrees.

if your talking about any game that seemingly sold the PSP as being a system sell then fine, but i'm hardpress'd in believing that those games that were on PSP would be system sellers vita.

i just don't by it.

There's 2 DSes sold per every 1 PSP sold - so if PSV can keep 10 milions diffrence for whole gen it will be a huge sucess ;)

the only thing that can make the Vita stand up to the 3DS is an exclusive GTA, which sells good on handhelds

Sony's bringing great games to the PSVita, but most of those games did not sell well on the PSP and Call of Duty wasn't a huge hit on PSP either

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

Absolutely. As long as Sony continues with integrating Vita with PS3 and making them symbiotic, Vita will do amazingly well. This is something that would have helped PSP tremendously.

Probably more than that.  I rarely see anyone bust out with a PSP compared to the regular DS.  N/E ways I expect a similar ratio with the 3DS and PSV in this coming handheld generation.  Especially, seeing the PSV is not mass market price!

Not dismal!!

in its 3rd NPD month it sold less than 100,000, whatever way you try to spin it, thats terrible, thats worse than the ps3 and the ps3 had a dismal launch.

Or are you saying the ps3 didnt have a dismal launch?
