Forums - Gaming - Final Fantasy X Remake Proves Square Enix Doesn't Really Care About FFVII Fans

I think it just proves that FF X is a simple re-rendering in a higher resolution while FF VII would require rebuilding the game from scratch.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

January 31, 2012 marks the 15th anniversary of the original Japanese release of FFVII. Given the significance of that date, it would have made perfect sense. Square Enix could finally throw back the curtain and show us high-definition remake we've been wanting for so long.

But instead, we get a 10-year anniversary re-do of Final Fantasy X. And it's not even a remake, but an HD update. Huh.

Quite simply, Square Enix doesn't care what their fans want.

But the truth is, Final Fantasy needs to be saved from itself. There hasn't been a good, "core" Final Fantasy title since FFX, Final Fantasy XII/XIII never lived up to the extraordinarily high bar that the franchise usually sets. Final Fantasy XIV, a broken mess of a game, is a running joke among console and PC gamers, and Square Enix even apologized for ruining it. And yet, the series continues its backwards progression with an aggravating amount of spin-offs, side projects, and more things that the fans never asked for.

Sure, I understand the concept of a Final Fantasy X HD remake. It's cheap to produce. It's easy to shill out for the PlayStation Vita launch. It's also an anniversary release, and you're essentially just re-skinning a PlayStation 2 title. Final Fantasy VII, an original PlayStation title from 1997, is so old that Square Enix would literally have to create a brand new game with a brand new engine. And they should have been doing that since the PS3 first rolled off the factory lines.

And what's worse is that Square Enix has proven they have the technology to do Final Fantasy VII again. I'm not just talking about the PlayStation 3 tech demo, either. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII (and the Final Fantasy Dissidia series) has shown that Square Enix is more than capable of recreating a full RPG experience with the world of Gaia. They've proven that they have the assets and art direction to do a FFVII remake on the PlayStation Vita -- or even the PlayStation Portable. But they haven't. For whatever reason, they won't.

Final Fantasy VII, an original PlayStation title from 1997, is so old that Square Enix would literally have to create a brand new game with a brand new engine. And they should have been doing that since the [PlayStation 3] first rolled off the factory lines.

And no matter how much we beg, we might not even get a remake until 2017. Why 2017, of all years? Because that's the date of the 20th anniversary -- and literally how long it might take before Square Enix finally lets us eat the carrot that they've been dangling in front of us since E3 2005...

Square Enix is either waiting on better technology (PlayStation 4?), or they're waiting for the day that their fans finally stop caring. Well, congratulations, Square Enix, you win. I don't care about Final Fantasy anymore.

HEY! I give Square Enix credit for FIXING FFXIV now! It's NOT a bad game at all. It wasn't THAT BAD when it first came out. I only had problems with the lag, but that was due to all of the background processes running on my PC. HOWEVER, the game is far from a mess. It had huge potential, and it still does. Quite frankly, I think it's much better with leveling up than FFXI was (they fixed FFXI by increasing the exp after killing monsters). Plus there is more flexibility. My only gripe with the game is traveling to places, but they are fixing it in the next patch with Chocobo raising AND airships. Oh, and did I mention the game is still free to play now?

yeah man, totally! I mean, the FFVII fanbase has been COMPLETELY neglected since 1998...what's wrong with Square-Enix? I mean....wait, you're serious? the MOVIE, SEQUEL, and PREQUELS that have been released (making it the most popular game in the series with the most spinoffs) aren't enough for you people?

Wow...just wow.

Yea, a movie and sequels/prequels that weren't up to par to the original and deminished the uniqueness of some of the characters.  I don't care about that BS.  I just want to explore the same world, only in glorious HD with full control of the camera.  And while I'm sure it would look good on the PS3, this late in the gen they should just wait for the PS4 to release to make it look even better.

I have been asking SE for this since 2006.

Guess we will have to wait until 2017 (Or later) for FFVII Remake.  :(

LAdies and gentlemen:  Exhibit A!

Seriously dude, can you act any more selfishly entitled?  it's attitudes like this that are ruining gaming.  Yes, I said it.  One of the biggest complaints in the industry is "too many sequels/remakes! companies have no originality and are selling out!"...yet it's this kind of "give us more" attitude that's supporting that.  Oh, it's perfectly fine to make a game YOU like over and over again, but don't DARE release yearly sequels to Call of Duty or Guitar Hero or any other popular franchise, because hey!  I don't like those games, and that strategy is ruining the industry!

am I truly the only one who sees the delightful irony here?

And where I sound selfishly entitled, you sound full of yourself.  Glad you could fill in the uneducated on what is "ruining gaming."  And personally, I don't really care how many COD or Guitar Hero's come out.  I'm not into those games, but if a company keeps getting sales from them, by all means, keep making them.  Maybe people will get bored of them, maybe they won't.  Again, it doesn't really get me riled up.

Of course, in my oh so humble opinion, it's companies not listening to their fans that is ruining gaming.  You think fans of FF wanted the linearity and lack of choice that the recent FF games have become?  Nope.  And sales show that.  Sure, 6 million (which was greatly helped by the FF name and it being the first HD FF) isn't anything to sneeze at, but when compared to FF7's 10 million it doesn't seem so hot.  Not when they spent extra time and money on porting it to 2 consoles to try to rake in even more money.  Yet, even with how repetitive people complain COD's are, they sell as well or better each time, because they are giving fans of the series what they want.  Regardless, of whether some gamers like that or not.

They said they wont remake FFVII because remaking it would take up to 11 years

You can't HD up scale a ps1 game, so there you go.

You can be patronizing all you want, that doesn't change the fact that I'm not wrong.

I Think FF 7 already had 5 games + 1 movie. So FF7 is very very very special for FF series.
