Ya I see your point he said it's better lol, but it seems so awkward and more like meant for tablets.

I didnt find it akward at all. Initially I thought that keybard and mouse are not that great for win8 but the moment you launch the desktop UI, its all back to normal windows business.

However you want to play in Metro UI and by second day keyboard and mouse were doing the job just fine.

IE10 metro browser also is quite a good departure from desktop browsing.

Ya you're probably right it just seems too different, maybe it's true that people can be a little afraid of change lol.

We have a 22" multitouch monitor at work, so I've downloaded the dev preview with the extra apps and plan on playing instead of working on monday.

It feels like active desktop all over the fucking OS, I don't hate technology, I just hate ugly pieces of shit GUI made by middle school kids these days that are based off something that was shitty to start with. In short, it's ugly and unappealing right now, and looking at their windows phone, I don't think that will change much. If this is the future of my desktop PC, then MS can go rot in a corner, not to mention it's also too ugly to be my tablet, I'd be embarrassed to bust it out in the open. It's way too ugly.

I'm a pretty big Windows fan but I don't use pads/tablets in general so those Windows 8 features don't seem all that interesting to me

It's their fault lol... I just love Windows 7 SO much! I can't imagine anything being worthy of replacing it :p

But they probably had to do this cuz of Google's OS and Apple's stuff too. Good move I say

Pretty cool presentation

They are showcasing the Tablet desktop because that is what is important to compete with the iPad. Desktop is there for laptop and desktop form factors. Another very cool think is the ability to install Windows 8 on a USB stick and take your system and data with u in your pocket and use on any PC.

By the way I posted this with one of the tablets MS gave away. They are awesome.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

Hopefully their price will be awesome too... :)

I wonder why MS makes Facebook Apps. Just give their users a basic Facebook experience without games. And pull all their users to xbox live? That's what came to mind seeing that vid.

This was a Windows 8 preview not just a gamers preview...  The XBox Live stuff was not the focus.  The focus was showing the new Metro style UI to Windows which essentially replaces the traditional start menu and desktop.

And it is slick.  Takes some getting used to and they really can't do it justice yet, but it will be excellent once it is fully ready.

Also, for those that say it is only for tablets and phones...  Within two years it is predicted that there wil be no such thing as a PC that ships without touch capability...  I wouldn't doubt if MS makes this a logo requirement of a Windows 8 PC because they really pushed the interface at their BUILD conference last week.

I like how they are making the interface like an advanced Windows Phone. Now with the PC I have (which has the awesome Windows 7) I probably won't ever upgrade it to Windows 8.

But if I ever get a tablet or a touchscreen computer then I would definitely get it!

I can see laptops and tablets merging as one device. I actually believe that kinect eye-tracking is much bigger on desktops, laptops and even tv compared to touch capability. Biggest advantage of windows 8 is retro windows 7 (users are familiar with this).  Metro UI looks kinda okey, but it hasn't been succesfull on smartphones and I doubt it will on tablets. Microsoft really has to force this to consumers with Nokia. If that fails it's over. Furthermore we still have to wait a year. By that time Google and Apple will also release their yearly OSs. Metro UI is different compared to Apple and Google, that's what I like about it. It's more organised instead of selforganizing.
