I like that BR cover and if they continue to do that for PSV games it only makes sense as some will be bundled with PS3 games so they want to make the case the same size.

the thing on the right, is that a memory card or a disc? if its a disc then why is the box so big?

I do think that Sony spent a little to much time talking about the data plans and pricing, but Japan hasn't received any information regarding the Vita and it is launching there first in a couple months. Well personally I think that both events were good, but that is just me. I think that Nintendo disappointed at both. Of course that Sony and Microsoft did fairly well to offset the bad of Nintendo.
