Wow seriously? So this will be a portable console? Knowing Gamestop this probably will be at least somewhat successful.

I just wonder if Vgchartz will track it when it comes out.

No they won't. This is just another Android tablet, look at OnLive does VGChartz follow their sales?

Also I have to wonder how easy it will be to play this on the run. At home with the tablet on a stand it seems like a great idea. But say your on a plane or bus, your going to place the tablet on your lap then pull out a controller to play? I think it would be fairly difficult to play like that your controller would block your view.

I think GameStop may have been smarter to launch a home console similar to OnLive. This tablet sounds like it will be difficult to play on the go. If GameStop focuses entirely on games and that controller they will have a major uphill battle against other tablets that offer way more services. However if they have their exclusive streaming service and figure out a way to make it easy to play on the run then they could have a hit.

I like the idea, I'll have to be convinced that GameStop can pull this off. At the moment I think a tablet may have been the wrong choice a portable games console or a home console may have been smarter. Then again GameStop couldn't just stop carrying handhelds and home consoles, but with their tablet they can exclusively carry it instead of carrying other tablets or smart phones!

I think that using the controler will be optional. I would assume that the games would come with touch controls like other tablet/iphone games.

I know something you don't know...........

yeah then again beside apple actually selling tablets, who did successfully pull it off ???? if other computer manufacturer can't get in the bandwagon... I wonder how they will???? I mean so far beside apple fans nobody cares about tablets.... and even in those apple user how many actually use the tablet more than they use a laptop and cellphone ???? who did actually substitute their other device with a tablet ???? that tablet thing is like blu ray against DVD until it becomes the standard and the old tech is dropped it ain't successful

does Gamestop actually have the resources for such a project?

Are they owned by a big firm?

well I'm pretty sure they are not doing that alone.... they probably will do it with a proven manufacturer but stilll.... it's gonna be a pain in the ass for them to market..... since gamestop is not in every country....

and I don't see how tablets right now can become the standard for anything (cellphone/laptop/gaming) at that price tag with that sub par quality and capabilities I don't see how... my 4 year laptop does better than any tablet for gaming surfing working communicating and is cheaper.... I don't see it replacing cellphones.... and well gaming is anybody here feeling like any tablet out there or yet to come can come anywhere close to what nintendo or sony can provide you with right now ???? (cause we all agree by now that tablet is a competitor to handheld but nowhere close to a home console)

Well, Gamestop's tablet will be used for nothing but games, according to the OP, so they can concentrate on nothing but that. That means they don't have to worry about anything else that other tablets have. Will games require the controller or will games also have touchscreen controls? If only the former, then it will be awkward to play in public places. I don't think it will have a big effect over the handheld market, because the 3DS and Vita will most likely be much better gaming platforms.

I think tablets might get big, but Apple has a monopoly on them for the most part and they charge a crapload for them. My cousin just got an iPad2 for use in school (his laptop is huge), and he loves the thing. I think tablets offer a much more portability over something like a laptop, which is probably the biggest selling point, even if it can't do as much as a laptop.

Oh hey I found some specs on that thing in the OP

  • Intel Oak Trail platform
  • Up to 64GB of solid-state storage
  • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity
  • 5.0-Inch TFT Capacitive Multi-touch screen
  • 1024 x 600 pixel resolution capacitive touch screen
  • Front and rear cameras (1.3MP Webcam in front , 3.1MP camera in back)
  • A microphone for video chat sessions
  • Windows 7 OS
  • OMOS Key Interface: useful as a mouse, and customizable for character input
  • 1GB of RAM installed, upgradable to 2GB
  • Right/Left keys on the device shoulder for gaming
  • microSD Memory Card Expansion Slots
  • Gyroscope/Accelerometer

Nice nice
