Forums - Microsoft - Developer: Xbox LIVE Indie Games "isn't a sustainable platform"

duh.. the money is at Xbox Live Arcade.... I don't get that indie developers expect their small game to suddenly sell millions and millions and make them rich.. only a few games did that..

i think im glad i dont read the site articles....for starters the quote and your use of it in the title suggest very different things.  and clearly just designed to increase views, which disgusts me.

What would you have preferred I titled it?

if you are unable to concieve of a title that is not inflammatory it only further demonstrates your lack of qualifications to be writing

Well, while I've only been writing for the video game industry for a few years, I've worked in television news for 11 years in the 14th largest market in the country. Since you asked about my qualifications. But I probably shouldn't even bother, since it's obvious you're quite bitter towards the writers on VGC and I should just stop feeding the trolls. I simply wanted to draw some discussion about Xbox and indie games, because there are some talented people working in that genre and they deserve more attention than they're getting.

yes, id say you should stop feeding them from the looks of your photo.  your title is inflammatory because you are a troll looking to stir shit up so you can get more views on your poorly written article.

Picking on my photo....classy.

well I don't see how getting more exposure is a bad thing ???? now the games you are talking about are all in the top rated game list so they do get better exposure than the other..... then you have dozen of website rating and ranking indie games on XBL.... now I agree it is messy.... but that is true across the entire platform, it's like the other day I was thinking why can't I categorize my netflix queue into subcategories so when I look for a documentary I queued I go into documentary tab and not have to shuffle all the way in my 400 long list ???

but that's another story.... now in the indie game a lot of those gem are over rated.... I know it's low budget and few people but still come on those zombie game are just ridiculous.... even if somewhat good the conceptual idea is not worth 80 pts if I can get better for free on PC or just in my own game library of old school console.....

now explain me why would MS push some of those games for free???? it's resources invested on there part and free advertising for a profitable cause is extremely rare.... if those small studio want to get big then do your marketing job yourself.... it should be part of their budget from the get go any company that does will never grow or at least never reach its full potential.... marketing is essential a now a days you have a shit load of free tools to develop your community and build up exposure.... so yeah I agree with you but it is not MS job or anybody else than the one doing the game to promote it......

you started with the insults...id advise you that if you cannot handle being on the recieving end then you should not cast them about yourself.

I've got to agree, however I think a large reason for this is the fact that almost every indie game gets accepted. I think if an indie studio wants to make a name for itself then they need to release their game on a tighter platform where they will face less competition. Ideally if they could get their game on WiiWare they would have a lot less competition and a larger market to target.

I think right now the indy market on Xbox is similiar to Flash gaming. Their are way to many games for any of them to be extremely successful. In order to make it you need to have a product that is far superior to anything else on the market.

If you get your game on WiiWare it would also not be hidden rather up front with all the other games. Easy to find and alot of people would buy it on impulse. PSN is the second worst with many more games to compete against. Microsoft's X-Box is the third worst and I'd say then comes Android and finally iOS. Fact is the market is getting flooded with Indie games and if the developers want to make anything of themselves they will choose to play on a level playing field.

If they go to WiiWare or PSN or even Steam they will have a much better chance at competing with competitor's then they do on X-Box or iOS or even Android!

I agree, Indie games don't stand a chance when their poor efforts are exposed by XBLA.
