Didn't expect it to sell this badly. I guess there's enough wiimotes on the market already.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

I know it may sold better when Wii - U will be released!

Switch!!!

Not a chance in hell, the game hasn't even reached 300k and it has been on the market a while. Honestly the only reason I bought Wii Play origionally was because there was a huge controller shortage. I wanted another controller and couldn't find one anywhere, however WiiPlay bundled with a controller was availible in large quantities. So I purchased Wii Play for the controller, I know friends who did as well.

Also the origional Wii Play wasn't competing with many other games at the time. The market for Wii games was still fairly small and everyone was dying to get their hands on some new games. WiiPlay sold pretty well do to this combination.

But today there are so many other games that people would rather buy. If your getting a new Motion Plus controller you can choose to get FlingSmash instead, if Fling Smash didn't exist I'm sure sales of Wii Play Motion would have been considerably higher. Also the fact that Wii Play Motion came so much later then the origional peripheral. Had the controller and game come out day one with the peripheral I'd bet it would have seen much higher sales.

In the end there just isn't room on the market for Wii Play Motion, I'm not even sure Wii Play could survive as a WiiU launch title. Since it wouldn't have any bonus peripheral or controller bundled with it. Honestly WiiPlay is a small amount of cheaply made mini-games serving as tech demo's to show off new hardware. Its not going to sell amazing if the new hardware it is showing off is old or non-existant!
