First time I heard the "trash lady" speak I just thought it was terrible voice acting. Racism No, but horrible voice acting.

Yea voice acting is not one of the game's strong points, and I am not really sure why that particular character is getting all the attention vertually every street NPC in the game is some stereotype, there are all kinds of white wannabie gangsters, conspiracy nuts, engrish speaking asians, stuck up ultra bussy bussiness women who are always talking on their cells etc.

But those people exist in the present day, Letitia's dialect doesn't. It's not that there are stereotypes in the game, it's that she is an inaccurate portrayal of black people in the future. She's the only character (that I've found) that talks like that in the game, so it makes her stand out even more. Every other black person for the most part sounds authentic, from the mannerisms to the slang terms used. She just doesn't fit in a game based 16 years in the future.

Racism will exist only as long as there are people that get butthurt over stupid stuff like this.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

yes I am sure there are far more white 80s hiphop wannabies today than people that talk like latitia. Not that that really has any baring of a fictional future of a universe that is not our own, proven by the fact fictional events are described in the game that date back to the early 2000s etc.

Ive watched the trailer myself and as a Black dude I didnt find anything offensive about it... I think its more offending that shes called trash lady...

if you go to the South thats how most people( not just blacks) speak

Being from the deep south, I can tell you that no one currently uses the dialect that Letitia uses. Saying that any American speaks like this character is like saying there are still Americans that use Elizabethan English in 2011. It's not racist it's just ignorant.

No buddy YOU ARE WRONG!!!! I lived in Tucson for only 2 years, and although I didn't meet too many people, working at Home Depot I met at least a couple of people that spoke like or VERY similar to Letitia, and one of them worked at one of the customer service desks near my Lead Generator help desk. Now if we were to say lots of people speak this way it would be a lie, but there are some out there. Now if in Deus Ex most black people spoke this way, different story, but this is the only encountered character with this accent and dialect (so far). P.S. I would hope Tucson, AZ is considered part of the south because if it isn't, then we all need a new compass.

Make games, not war (that goes for ridiculous fanboys)

I may be the next Maelstorm or not, you be the judge http://videogamesgrow.blogspot.com/  hopefully I can be more of an asset than a fanboy to VGC hehe.

Either someone went back in time 180 years to hire some runaway slaves to come to Tucson, or you can't tell the difference between modern black speech patterns and an outdated one. And as I've stated before, the fact that Letitia is the only character that speaks this way in the game makes her stand out even more. She's out of place in a game based in 2027 because no one speaks like that in 2011.

EDIT: And Arizona is actually the Southwest not the Deep South, so you'd have an easier time of finding people with similar speech patterns of Californians that that of someone with a traditional southern accent. Unless they just moved to there from Alabama or something.

I'm sure somewhere, people talk like this, and the only thing that could be considered racist for me, is the fact she's called a trash lady

If she lives in a trash can,

she isn't homeless,

that's why.

you know,

I think that voice actor just sucked.
Because she's Josie Thorpe, Letitia, and Michelle (a senile old woman)

And all 3 of them are some of the worst voice acting in the game.
