Forums - Sales - The Wii Sports massacre continues...

sky render said it all mostly.

A game sold is a game sold and a game played or you want to put asterisks in gaming also...

Beside that why doesn't other consoles do pack ins, they do but not even close to nintendo's pack ins maybe they should add two games in pack ins to win...

There's really three kind of pack-ins: the kind packed in at launch to showcase the system's abilities (SMB1, SMW, Wii Sports, etc.), the kind packed in later in a system's life because they're popular titles (MotorStorm, Gran Turismo 3 and 4, Forza Motorsport, etc.), and the kind packed in to get rid of excess copies of a game that didn't sell well (Marvel Ultimate Alliance in particular). Nintendo's one of the only companies who ever does the first type (Sega being the other with their Sonic pack-ins).

Sky Render - Sanity is for the weak.

Let me clear this up. Wii Sports isn't packed in with the Wii, the Wii is packed in with Wii Sports.

A pack-in game falls in to hazy territory and really shouldn't be considered for the highest selling games of all time. You can't accurately determine how the game would have sold on it's own over it's life. Wii Sports sold well on it's on in Japan, but many Japanese style games either do not sell well here or are not even imported here.

Wii Sports is a great pack-in game. It showcases what the system does, but it really isn't a complete game. On it's own, it couldn't have been sold for anything above $30 and it most likely wouldn't have posted over a million in sales in the US. As a pack-in, however, it's value is greatly increased, especially considering the already low cost of the Wii system.

Many other old packed in games with Nintendo systems were classics, but they were also complete games for the system they were on. They were not the equivalent of a tech demo of what the system could do. Still, it is unfair to put them on the list of the greatest selling games because a great amount of them were sold as pack-ins. It isn't even fair to compare them against other pack-ins because many are seasonal or limited promotions while others were sold for almost the entire life of the console (like Wii Sports in the US).

Thank god for the disable signatures option.

The Wii cost less than 200, so you're paying 50 for Wii sports at least. If you ask me, WiiSports deserves his spot....

Livin' in sin is the new thing.

Wow, the trolls are out in force tonight, i'd rate this a strong 9/10 on the troll scale.

Just because the game isn't to your liking doesn't make it a "tech demo".

Wow, what a very creative way to read my post.

I never said I didn't like Wii Sports.  I've played it.  It's fun, but it isn't a complete game.  It is like a sampling of what the Wii can do.  The games are short and there aren't many of them.  It is more like a demo.

You are absolutley right, in the future all games on the top sellers list should be sent to you for evaluation if they *really* are games or just "tech demos". That's not trolling how?

Wow, I didn't know the Europeans were getting it packed in. I just assumed they were getting shafted on that one (like everything else).

You learn something new every day...

Oh yeah, but £180 = $360, so we still get ripped off in some way.

Even though the dollar is REEEEEALLLLYY low right now the Wii costs over $420 in Sweden (That's if you directly exchange the currecies). That's a rip off.

It's not trolling if you actually bother to read my post.  I said that no pack-in games should be considered when talking about best selling games of all time.  You can't accurately gauge what the overall sales of the game would have been if it wasn't sold soley on it's own.  Wii Sports sold well in Japan, but it was also sold at a lower price compared to other games on the system and just because a game sells well in Japan, doesn't mean it will sell well outside of Japan.  My comment about Wii Sports being a tech demo is simply stated as a possible reason why it may not have sold as well if it wasn't a packin and stated that it couldn't have been sold at full price, which it wasn't in Japan.

You zero'd in on one part of my post and expanded it to be my whole argument.
