You can't accurately determine how the game would have sold on it's own over it's life. Wii Sports sold well on it's on in Japan, but many Japanese style games either do not sell well here or are not even imported here. Wii Sports is a great pack-in game. It showcases what the system does, but it really isn't a complete game. On it's own, it couldn't have been sold for anything above $30 and it most likely wouldn't have posted over a million in sales in the US. As a pack-in, however, it's value is greatly increased, especially considering the already low cost of the Wii system. Many other old packed in games with Nintendo systems were classics, but they were also complete games for the system they were on. They were not the equivalent of a tech demo of what the system could do. Still, it is unfair to put them on the list of the greatest selling games because a great amount of them were sold as pack-ins. It isn't even fair to compare them against other pack-ins because many are seasonal or limited promotions while others were sold for almost the entire life of the console (like Wii Sports in the US). |
Wow, the trolls are out in force tonight, i'd rate this a strong 9/10 on the troll scale.
Just because the game isn't to your liking doesn't make it a "tech demo".
