PAX: Valve Explains Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

Valve has revealed more details about the next installment of the Counter Strike series, including how cross-platform match-making will work.

Speaking to Gamespot, Valve writer Chet Faliszek conceded that many PC gamers have been shocked by the news that servers for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive will be populated with PC, PS3 and Mac players. But he says match-making will ensure that only console players with high skill levels will compete in high-ranking PC matches:

"So I think a lot of PC players go like 'Oh my God. I don't want my game filled with all those console noobs'. Well, guess what? They have no edge. There's no auto-aiming happening. There's nothing giving them an advantage."

Faliszek also confirmed that seven classic Counter Strike maps will be featured in the game: five will be the "defuse the bomb" scenarios, two will be hostage rescues. He says all of the maps have been tweaked to fix any imbalances. Valve will also announce new maps and modes in the near future.

The Beta of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive will be launched in October, with the final released penned for "sometime in early 2012".

No way! It's like my craziest dreams come true. As long as these scrubs aren't on my team, this will be a gloriou game even if it just allows me to laugh at the noobs on the console.

Some of these who you call "noobs" will totally pwn you with controllers.

Sure. However they have to be in a much higher tier in console gamers for them to beat me with a controller than if they played the game with proper controls. Let's say that I'm in the 75th percetile of PC gamers. Well, no one in the 75th percentile using a controller will be able to touch me.

I hope that if you buy the ps3 version you get the mac/pc version also for free like with Portal 2..

If only the PS3 controller was a good as the 360 controller... I'd buy this game on PS3 just to shut up PC gamers and their nonsense. Yes, the mouse is better, but the keyboard sucks, and I can still stand my ground against PC gamers using a controller. (I've done it before in CoD on PC)

I'm probably in the top 5% of console FPS players, easily, so I'm sure I could compete with most PC gamers other than the extremely dedicated and competitive players/clans. In fact I constantly complain about auto-aim because it ruins my shots way more often than it helps me. I even have the FPS Freak extenders for my analog sticks plus use the maximum sensitivity and it still barely keeps up with how fast and smoothly I aim. And if MS ever makes an officially supported Mouse + Joystick combo for the Xbox or PC I will be all over that.

I am serious :) I tried using it in CS:Source, but since the controller isn't officially supported I was using this controller hack with custom config files and I couldn't find a good one that worked well with that game. Still hold my own with KB + Mouse, don't get me wrong, but it's the keyboard part that always has me fumbling. Never an issue with my aim :)

CoD is a super scrub game. Let me tell you that back in the days scrubs who couldn't handle Quake 3 or UT played CS (sad part is that CS has now somehow become more pro than the rest of the games).
