Forums - General - How Many Governments Will Bouazizi Topple?

Bouazizi is the guy who wanted to sell vegetables to pay for his family's expenses in Tunisia and lit himself on fire when he couldn't.

So far he's taken out Tunisia, Egypt, and probably Libya, and severely hurt Syria, Yemen, Oman, and several other countries. I think he's already the most powerful man of the current century, almost without question, but the question is how many more dictators will fall as a part of his legacy?

People are difficult to govern because they have too much knowledge.

When there are more laws, there are more criminals.

I disagree that he toppled them. All he was was the spark that lit the fuel that had been building up for something like this to happen for fifty-odd years.

However I think the Arab Spring will eventually topple Syria and Yemen as well as the three that have already fallen. In addition there is likely to be some lessening of the powers of the monarchs of Oman, Jordan and especially Morocco.

So your saying that this guy who no one has ever heard of (I only read yahoo news and the sunday chicago paper) is the reason for all this turmoil in these countries?

Google the cause of WWI, and you will see a lot of websites say that it started due to the assasination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. In reality, it was due to competition for land and resources, and a buildup of alliances and military resources much like in the cold war.

This thread just keeps on teaching me stuff! So I am guessing this is where the british band got their name? FRanz Ferdinand.

Yes, Franz Ferdinand (the band) got their name from the Archduke. The assasination is also what is being referenced in http://www.metrolyrics.com/all-for-you-sophia-lyrics-franz-ferdinand.html

So yeah, my parallel between the two of them (Bouazizi and Ferdinand) was that they are btoh often thought of as causing the event that followed, even though in both cases there was a huge build up of tensions beforehand, and this was simply the event that kicked everything off.
