That would certainly throw the outcome up in the air, but would likely lean things in Nintendo's favor given everything else Nintendo has going for them in the market that Sony does not. PSP's resurgance in the Japanese market was due to third party support that migrated there after Monster Hunter became big there, and it would depend on how much of that third party support, aside from Monster Hunter, carries over.

Interesting side note on this matter: The sequel to 999 is multiplat between the Vita and the 3DS. The Vita's touch screen might make multiplat development between the two much easier than it was with the PSP and DS.
