Forums - Nintendo - What will happen to Wii when its $99

Not much will happen.
There's a huge difference between the PS2 library at the time it went to 99$ and the Wii library right now ( and issue is the Wii library is hardly expanding anymore..)

I mean lets be honest. How many current Wii titles you expect to see as remakes next gen ?
Then compare to how many PS2 titles were rereleased this gen with a slight makeover..

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

Wii sales will go through the roof and won't come back down to earth until like much later.

Switch is 9th generation. Everyone else is playing on last gen systems! UPDATE: This is no longer true. 2nd UPDATE: I have no Switch 2. I am now behind

It'll continue to decline, because at that point it'll have hardly any games coming out for it at all.

If you thought this year was bad wait till next year.

agreed

That seems to be said every year though. Although I have to admit that there was hardly nothing this year.

true but why dould the suportt come back other then 3rd party casual dev's trying to keep wii alive for the money?

True! And I think Sony is still pushing the PS2, I doubt that Nintendo will want to push the wii too much once the wii U is out.

agreed. with the way Sony does there consoles they could have 5 out in 2015.

psv, psp, ps4, ps3, and the likely final yr of ps2

Im going to have to say not much.

Tease.

Minor boost, nothing major like you might think, because the Wii U will be out by the time the Wii is $99. Also because at $149 its already very affordable so dropping another $50 won't be that drastic.

Also I think the next drop will be to $124 or $129. I doubt they'll go straight from $149 to $99.

Nothing. The Wii already has been abandoned by Nintendo.

I think the impact will be bigger depending on what games will come out next year and on the release date of Wii U.
A 99€/$ Wii is pretty atractive for families who will give their sons their first console or gamers who would like to try some Wii games but wouldn`t before because the price was too high for their expectations.
Wii`s 99€/$ strength will also lie on how good the packages are: good games, 2 controllers, more colors.

If Wii U gets released around June it will be hard to decide when to cut it`s price. Before it, Wii U, being the new console, could cut into it`s sales; after it, could harm Wii U`s Christmas a little bit.
If it`s released more around September, a price cut in March, April would give it enough time to increase sales without having to fight a new console.

Let`s see what Nintendo and 3rd parties plan to release next year.
