You're confusing "permitted by the Bible" with "permitted by the Catholic establishment".
The beliefs of the Catholic church do not match up with the writings of the Bible, because it's a long book and you can't really remember all of it and it contains so many contradictions that you would probably create a singularity if you tried to follow it and because some of that stuff is kind of inconvenient (giving away all of your possessions and such).
The thing is, if you accept Christianity as the true word of God, it has to all be correct. But perhaps when you see something worrying in the Bible (not you specifically, but people in general), your first thought should not be "I bet I can ignore this because context and society and blah" but rather "would a loving God really say this?" And then if you accept Islam or Judaism as the true word of God, and it's the same God, well, you run into even more problems.
For that reason, all of the Abrahamic religions make no sense to me. Perhaps that's because no other religion's followers seem to take their religion as literally as Christians, Jews and Muslims. See this chart:
