People keep saying "3 years is way too soon", like it's something that they actually expect will happen some time down the road.

They're wrong.

There will NEVER be an extinction of singleplayer. Singleplayer may develop more online interactions as options, but they won't be considered the standard any more than they are now unless they're non-invasive. And if they're non-invasive, it's hardly an elimination of singleplayer.

The thing is, multi player games and multi-player elements die out as improvements come along and the audience changes their focus. A single player experience is good for as long as people think its fun.

Did the radio disappear when television was invented? Did the television disappear when the internet was invented? Will the single player disappear now that we have multiplayer?

No.

Not going to happen through i could see the big split beetween Japanise games being single player oriented mostly and west games going mostly into multiplayer side.

I actually sort of agree with the man to a certain extent. Its not to say you can't play alone, but look at Demon's soul, it is a single player focused game but mixes up and connects different people so that the adventure itself seems realistic, or of a more grander scale.

Or you can also look at NFS: Hot pursuit, even in the single player mode, you are constantly shown challenges left by your friends so you have something to thrive for always, so it makes the game more fun and challenging.

I think people are taking this the wrong way, the future of single player can really be enriched and innovated upon by using multiplayer functionalities in a non-conventional way.

A future where single players games are an irrelevance would be my gaming nightmare. Needless to say, I would hope that this guys vision does not come to pass.
