Its quite funny that PS3 has been struggling in NA but only slightly outperforming in europe. In reality the difference between both console in both market isnt that much. Using slightly or struggling doesnt really matter, but be consequent please.

"It is no secret that the PlayStation 3 has been struggling for some time against the Microsoft Xbox 360 in North America (but slightly outperforming in Europe)"

I was going to say the same thing until I remembered that EMEAA Isn't just Europe. It's also Afica and Asia. As far as I know, Ps3 may only be slightly leading in Europe with the majority of it's sales coming from Africa & Asia. We would have to look at each individual country in Europe to see how large the gap is.

PS3 so far this year in Europe: 2,043,000

360 so far this year in Europe: 1,521,000

About 16,000 more units sold per week for PS3 in Europe.

just like some of pepole said,if MS wanna win this year WW,they must need a price cut

The $50 cut will not be enough for the PS3 to consistantly outsell the 360 in NA but I'm curious how big the difference WW is going to grow.

Funny you sound so certain about this.  On September 4th, the current deal where a free xbox 360 is given to people who purchase a windows 7 computer valued at $699 or more will be over.

I'm not certain of the full extent this is having on sales (or if it is being included, for that matter), but without a doubt, sales will be at least slightly effected once this is done.

Also, this $50 difference would be HUGE for holiday shopping.  Yes, Microsoft will still have the $199 Xbox 360, but last year, that edition was a full $100 cheaper than the cheapest PS3.  This year, that difference would only be $50, and the PS3 would also be cheaper than the $299 Xbox 360, which a lot of people will likely compare it to.

With the games that will be releasing on the PS3 in the coming months, it would be very smart by Sony to also do some cool PS3 bundles for the holiday season.

Microsoft almost has to do something, or they will literally get blown to pieces this holiday season.

Funny, but I couldn't find where in this article, the author or the op, suggested that America = the world.

On topic, I would be surprised if Microsoft reacted tomorrow, but would expect them to respond in the short term, if the momentum starts to shift.

Personally I think Microsoft would like to wait for a price drop (and competitive bundle pricing) closer to the holiday season. But I could be wrong.

That's because they didn't

even if MS doesn't drop price they'll do fine. the thing is that Sony always does good during Sept. and October its the last 2 months that claims Sony/PS3 as there bitch.

Well, if Microsoft really doesn't do anything with their price, I really do think Sony could obliterate the Xbox 360 with the right strategy.

MS is still in a great position. I think the 360 can still outsell the PS3 this holiday season even without the pricecut. I doubt this PS3 cut will have much of a long-term effect in North America, and I believe the 360 will dominate that region with Kinect, MW3, Gears and Halo.

@Baalzamon

You make some fair points but the holiday season is driven by far by the casual consumer. 360 is gonna win in NA in a big way this holiday I can 100% guarantee you that. Perhaps by the largest margin it ever has even WITH a PS3 price drop. Look at Sony's holiday lineup. Uncharted, Resistance, etc. Those titles do nothing to draw in a casual consumer. In NA MS will have a very strong casual lineup with Kinect. People keep forgetting that Kinect is here to stay and has done respectable all year and is gonna do huge over the holiday with Kinect Sports 2, Dance Central 2, etc. Not to mention multi-plats in NA pretty much always benefit the 360 and MW3 and Battlefield 3 and even Skyrim to a lesser extent will do wonders for the console. Its not 360's NA holiday I'm worried about that is in the bag and will be perhaps its biggest ever with multiple bundles like Kinect + Star Wars and the Gears and Kinect bundles.

That being said I do expect Sony to obliterate the 360 in continental Europe which is why I'm really unsure of what MS's next move will be. I'm not sure what the WW gap is going to be between the two weekly will be. I fully expect Sony may be huge in Europe this holiday and it may counteract 360's domination of NA. Only time will tell I guess.

Sometimes...analysts can be real dumb. If MS is waiting on a price cut, it's waiting to do one only to time it with Gears 3. Sony will gain a lot of ground if MS doesn't follow suit.

I really do think you are overestimating the power of the stuff releasing on the 360 though.  Microsoft already had Kinect last year.  Microsoft already had titles for Kinect that appealed to the casual audience.  My question is how having those again this year will make Microsoft be even more sucessful than last year.

Even though most people have just started to ignore it, the price cut on the Wii will also make that a VERY attractible item for the casual audience for holiday sales, potentially taking away some of the Xbox 360 sales.

PS3, however, will be similar to last year, plus have a $50 price cut, which it did not have last year.

Without a price cut for the Xbox 360, I truly do see the PS3 winning this holiday season not only for WW sales, but also for sales in NA.
