Forums - Nintendo - 3DS price cut in effect at Walmart,Target

Can't wait for August 12th for Nintendo's 3DS price drop to take effect? Good news, neither could two giant retailers, apparently. Walmart reportedly got the ball rolling yesterday, cutting the asking price down from $250 to $170 in-store, and Target quickly followed suit -- the price is still listed as $250 on both sites for the moment. Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata acknowledged late last month that the drops, officially scheduled for August 12th, were due to concerns from retailers and game designers. As Joystiq points out, those who buy the console before the switchover is official will likely be able to take advantage of the price drop and Nintendo's offer of free games for early adopters. Score.

Thanks Snake for starting this topic, I wanted to but don't have enough posts.

My 3DS cost me $20!

When it launched I was not willing to go over $200. My daughter was willing to chip in $50 of her allowance however, so she started to save up. She had enough money a few weeks ago but then I saw the news about the planned price drop, so I held off.

Now Walmart has slashed the price ahead of the ambassador program. I called up one Walmart store and they still had the $250 price, then I called another about 3 miles away from the first, and they had it for $170! So, I went and got it! My daughter payed $50, so I put just $120 on my card. Took it home and logged on to the eshop to get in the ambassador program, for the free 20 games. I'm estimating those games are worth about $100! So, I basically got my 3DS for $20!

Go buy yours today!

To be fair, Nintendo can't be blamed if the retailers decide to do their own thing.

Kylie,

Here is a solution for you. Buy a 3DS today, log on to the eshop and then put it back in its packaging. Sell it on Ebay tomorrow advertizing like new with the 20 free ambassador games. You are unscrewed!

If u did buy one yesterday at full price, rushed home to have your registration done.

You could have gone to the store today, buy another one with the price cut, leave that one unopened to go to the store tomorrow to ask for a full refund using the receipt for the full price 3DS.

So you had the 20 free games at the cut-off price 3DS.

Simple!
