I didn't know how terribly the Wii has been doing... I guess this is a sign it's about time for:
1. The Wii U
or
2. More games for the Wii

Well typically Nintendo consumers were casuals who didn't know about incoming pricecuts and still bought their machines a week or two before cut.

I can't see the PS3 ending in 1st place. No way, no how. Wii: 110-115 mill (give or take) PS3: 80-90 mill Xbox 360: 80-85 mill Similar to the PS2, the PS3 may be the console that sells the longest down the road, especially since I think Sony may launch the PlayStation 4 last next gen. Whether or not it passes the 360, however, will greatly depend on the next 8-12 months. If it can't grab 2nd place by then, my figures will need some adjusting. |
Wii won't go above 100-105 milions - even this year they will strugle to ship 10 milions and after that there's only sharp drop awaiting them
PS3 will outsell Wii in the long run and finish somewhere ahead of PS1
X360 sounds about right with 80-90 milions.

Your Wii and 360 numbers look pretty accurate but your almost certainly low-balling PS3. Sony are projecting sales of 65 million by the end of the fiscal year and with continued momentum from this years price cut, and possibly another one next year, 2012 shouldn't be too far down on 2011. So it would already be close to the low end of your projection by the end of next FY. And I'm sure Sony will stick to their 10 year plan and keep the PS3 around until at least 2016. So it would only need to average about 7 million a year in its final 3 years to reach 100 million. A feat that shouldn't be too hard with at least 2 more price cuts in the cards after this years cut.
Be interesting to see the 3DS numbers here in the UK next week as i got me one. First ever handheld!
Amazon sold it for £115 and i got Zelda from Morrisons for £25. While in Morrisons i asked how they were doing sales wise and the guy said all Aqua ones have gone and was around 8 Black ones left which he thought would be gone by the close of the day.
Should be a huge bump in sales then.

@cross-x. like I said in a previous post, in the case at hand, it does not matter that no one thought that the 3ds was going to receive a price cut so early. its irrational to expect the 3ds to move a lot of units a week before a price cut. Prove me wrong please. but you and your friends don't want to see that because it is not in your gaming agenda. in my country there is an old saying that goes "you want so bad to see me blind, that you are willing to take out your own eyes to do that".
