i said it before, nintendo's biggest failure was not investing their profits back into their platform.
perspective:
$10,000,000,000 in cash reserves / $10,000,000 avg cost of a major wii release = 1000 games.
...do you really think the wii would have dropped from first to last place weekly with 1000 additional games? even 100? or even 20? why didn't nintendo finance even just a few third parties to make content for their system, especially in the areas their internal development is weak (aka mature, core games)??
the broken part of nintendo's model is thinking that having the mega hits is enough ... i well rounded library is a well healthy library is a happy consumer. NoA viewing xenoblades performance in europe as a "test" just highlights how much they don't get it and is just more fuel for why this particular life-long nintendo fan is now an ex-nintendo fan.
I think the idea of these apps and one dollar games eroding the handheld market is being overstated. I think everyone is using Nintendo as this, but you can't know using their example because they totally f*cked everything up regarding this launch. They made themselves suffer, and this damage is being attributed to apps and cheap games, which I think is a bit overstated. We need to see a proper execution, hopefully Vita can screw things up less.

Fuck the iPhone. As if Nintendo's reputation hasn't been hurting enough lately.

Nah, Nintendo should have their IPs on Nintendo hardware. They'll lose what makes them unique otherwise. 3DS is not doome, it was too expensive. A cheaper 3DS with Pokémon and 2D Mario will sell very well.
No troll is too much for me to handle. I rehabilitate trolls, I train people. I am the Troll Whisperer.
yes just because they are down a bit now it means they will be down forever from now on!

Regarding Wii U, i think Nintendo will do awesomely. Tablets are on the rise which is really good for them, but since they are adding buttons and joysticks, those who like to play with their controllers will be pleased as well. All in all, there`s pretty much something for evertone and this is something that only Nintendo is doing.
In a certain way, that`s why the Wii remote was so accessible: it offered motion controls and regular controls at the same time.
About 3DS' 3D being a gimmick, personally i don`t think it is. I really like to play Zelda with it turned on, it`s just that it`s not easy to move around the console with it turned on.
I just think the technology behind it isn`t the best for a handheld. You move around a lot and easily you see double images.
3DS uses Parallax Barrier Technology which may be replaced by Lenticular Lens Technology, which gices a wider range of viewing angles. This new technology could be used in a 3DS Lite for example.

I agree with your point, Nintendo really dropped the ball.... but that's ridiculous maths, the cost to make a game is not just in money but also time and manpower.

the math wasn't intended to be "real"...
but manpower/time can be added; hire new people, pay third parties to use their manpower, buy upcoming studios.
restricting to just this gen sony: farmed LBP and then aquired media molecule, aquired sucker punch, farmed demon souls to from software, invested in Quantic Dream's heavy rain, farmed continued R&C development and the new resistence ip to insomniac, farmed heavenly sword to ninja theory, farmed twisted metal to eat sleep play, (i could be wrong but i believe) warhawk and starhawk were farmed out too, not to mention all the exclusive content sony got like the joker being a playable character in batman AA.
other than metroid other M being farmed to team ninja where has nintendo reached out to third parties this gen? they have the money to do it so why aren't they?
...then again, that was an awefully large post for someone who " agree(s) with your point". xD
If the future of games is Angry Birds and Farmville. Just kill me now.
