Used game buyers need to help pay for the servers, says DICE exec

DICE executive producer Patrick Bach has said Battlefield 3 will 'probably' ship with EA's Online Pass system incorporated into its multiplayer functionality.

As per the usual system, Back said players would "probably" need to register a single-use code included in the box with new copies of the game to play the multiplayer section (the part that matters in BF3), while used game buyers will have to cough up a little extra cash for a code of their own.

"The whole idea is that we're paying for servers," he went on to reason. "If you create a new account there is a big process on how that is being handled in the backend. We would rather have you buy a new game than a used game because buying a used game is only a cost to us; we don't get a single dime from a used game, but we still need to create server space and everything for you."

He went on: "We want people to at least pay us something to create this because we're paying for it. It was actually a loss for us to have new players. Hopefully people understand why. It's not to punish people. To us it's compensation."

it's understandable... but I still hate it...
