God of War 3 is kicking ass! Are stores selling it for $20 or what?

$14.99 at GameStop. Still, it's a fantastic result when you think about it. Means people are still interested, not to mention it's shattering much of the doubt it had pre-release.

I remember predicting 4.5mill in it's lifetime. At this rate, that may be too low.

Well I haven't bought it yet and I will be, maybe next year. Along with the GoW collection since I haven't played GoWII.

I just want to pause from looking at the week's sales and look at how much the big picture has changed. How many people truly believed that PS3 would be the highest selling home console for a 6 month stretch? I certainly never saw it. I thought PS3 would remain behind Wii in medium term sales until Wii2 (now WiiU) came along.

I still think Wii will take the holidays globally. The price cut now lead to a short term surge in sales, but I think a lot of potential buyers are still eyeing Christmas for buying Wii. But I wonder if the holiday win will be enough to claw back the lead PS3 will have built up over the first 9-10 months. 360 should win the annual sales (and even possibly christmas sales in Americas, but I think globally the contest for first place in 2011 is Wii vs PS3.

For this week, we are pretty much in the doldrums HW sales wise and yet the 3 home consoles are still pulling >100K numbers each. That's pretty good because as I recall it at this time of year the 3rd placed console (and even 2nd placed) is commonly below 100K for the week. Remember PS3 pulling mid 70's pre-remodel/price cut?

Japan: just another proof that Wii could still rock with SW, while 3DS plummets down as fast as it jumps up.
WW: 3DS plummets below PSP scoring one of the worst weeks in its still short life and showing it could fall again under 70k, BEFORE Nintendo announced a price cut is coming soon: this makes the cut look like a panic move. It could be not, but it damn looks like that.

I may not be a captain of industry, but I can damn near say it's a fact that this was a panic move.  This was NOT a move that Nintendo intended to make this soon, one must only look at their corporate history to confirm this.  It's a massive price cut.

Their expected net profit fell 82% percent.  EIGHTY-TWO percent.  I'm pretty sure it'll do fine with the cut, but it's not something they wanted to do. No way.

Of course but it's still a painfull lesson they deserved.

Good DS numbers, Wii still doing fine... wii needs software, Zelda and kirby are going to sell a lot of units (3 mill-1mill for nov-dec, IMO) but those games may not be enough to secure some recovery. I hope they can release mario party and rhythm heaven this holiday, that could increase wii sales a lot, specially mario party.
and waiting for the 3ds post price-cut numbers...

PS3 has been getting great software all year long. ME2, LBP2, Portal2, Crysis2, Infamous 2, (i see a pattern), Killzone3, MvsC3, Mortal Kombat, those are just the games i played. I know im missing a few. And Wii got, Lost in Shadow, Wii PLay Motion and a Mario SPorts Mix and some shovelware. Thats it.

Completely false,

Wii sales are already saturated.  Wii party/Mario party Wii sales are saturated, Wii sales will not recover.  stop giving yourself false hope, its sad to read.

I had to fix your reply for you.

Some people are saying that if they release a pokemon, mario, kirby, etc, game for the 3DS, it will sell a lot. But that didnt happened with the N64 nor the Gamecube. Those consoles have those games and yet sales wise they were a complete failure. Most sales of this games overlap, so if mario, pokemon, kirby sells 20 millions each, it doesnt means that the handheld will sell 60 million, at most it will sell 35M.

The wii was selling a lot not because of the games, but because of the controller; so old people and/or moms who care not about mario or zelda bought the console. And that market is now saturated.

Stop fooling yourselfs by thinking that games are going to save the handheld (and will increase wii sales). If the 3DS succeeds it will be for other reasons, and not nintendo games.

If nintendo games were the solution, the N64 would have sold better than the PS1, and the gamecube would have sold better than the PS2 and yet that didnt happened. The PS1 and PS2 would have sold like crap according the previous statement because it didnt had any 20Million seller game; and yet that was not the case.

Nintendo consoles are quite different from other consoles in their user base; because they are only appealing to nintendo fans (and now to moms / old people), and not to a wide range of gamers. The PS brand has a high mix of users, the ones that buy God of War may buy uncharted or maybe not, the ones the buy Infamous may or may not buy Killzone; and so on. So if 20 games sell 2-2.5M, that means in this case almost 45M consoles sold.

Most people bought the DS because of the touch screen, and the 3DS has the same that is why it is not selling. And most people bought a Wii because of the controller, and the idea behind it (not being in the couch, and be "active") not for the games.

Well, that is what I think. I know nintendo fans will consider it far from true, but if you think about it, it makes sense :D.

Wii is still selling on par with the HDtwins, with the only tiny difference that it still 30 million units ahead of it... Now when I say recover, I am not saying back to 2008/2009 levels, what I mean is that is probably going to be on par/or at little less with/than the ps3/360 this holiday, stop fooling yourself believing that everybody is a fanboy... it is sad to read.
