1,2,3 final fantasy 7,8,9 nothing else even comes close

Around the Network

In no order:
-Soul Calibur
-Chrono Trigger
-Super Mario World
-Metal Gear Solid
-Super Street Fighter 2
-Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (Playing OoT 3D made me realize that, without the wow factor of 3D, LttP is just a better game)
-Super Metroid
-Tony Hawk's Pro Skater
-Resident Evil 2
-Final Fantasy Tactics

(Shout out to Conker, F-Zero, Mario Kart, Final Fantasy III, Crash Team Racing, Wave Race, and Donkey Kong Country)

And to name a few games that people probably wouldn't consider:
-Tetris Attack
-You Don't Know Jack
-Intelligent Cube
-Parrapa The Rappa
-Mario Paint
-MTV Music Generator

They weren't the top of anybody's playlist but they're as fun today as they were then. Timeless time wasters.

A lot of games that were awesome at the time didn't hold up very well. Our side-scrolling shooters, 2D brawlers, mascot games, sports titles and such are nothing more than fond memories. As much fun as they were at the time, I'd rather gnaw my arm off than play some of them, today.

It makes you wonder. In ten or twenty years, will we be equally disgusted by our poorly aged Halo, Uncharted, Heavy Rain, or any number of technical marvels of today? Part of me thinks that when we look back at which games from today are still worth playing, games like Wii Play, Dance Central, Mario Galaxy, and Braid are going to lead the charge. The rest will feel as outdated as Out of This World or Goldeneye.

lol you really want those points for gamerewards (+ 2 points right there!)... good topic for that ^^ (too bad you were barely born in the 90, that would have saved the embarrassment of skipping the 16bit era)

from 10 to 1
Breath of Fire II (really liked it)
Goldeneye (yay a next gen title)
Sonic&knuckles (almost forgot the non snes games :p)
Super Mario World
Super Mario Kart
Super Metroid
Zelda alttp
ChronoTrigger
Secret of Mana (played it with a friend as well as alone... so gets a boost in funfactor =)
FFIV

WC2, Diablo and SC would go somewhere in the middle if I included PC (and I guess HL, though i only played it in 2000)... and there's so many other awsome games barely equaled to this day (look at the other lists).

Out of this world felt already outdated back when it came to consoles.... it's it's style and it makes it futureproof! (until we meet actual aliens)

In the case of Super Mario Bros. we had four games that all obeyed the same rules before Yoshi's Island was released. One button to run and one to jump. SMW2 breaks this basic principle and therefore plays vastly differently. We have a similar case on the Gameboy with Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land. Is it really a Mario game? I don't think so. If I were asked to remove one half of the title, then it would be Super Mario Land 3, leaving only Wario Land. The same when it comes to SMW: YI. And Super Mario 64 is also something else altogether, because platforming in 3D requires drastic changes to the way the game plays. It just isn't the same anymore.

In the case of Zelda the rules weren't established before the "black sheep" hit. Zelda wasn't as clearly defined as SMB was. You had two different styles in the first two games and Nintendo eventually settled for the former. But what I think is the most important point is that the main character is the same across all The Legend of Zelda games which is something that doesn't hold true for SMB vs. YI and SML vs. WL.

Of course not everything is black and white here, there's definitely a gray zone. Still though, I really like my interpretation.

Good points.  Totally agree on Wario Land, too.

Top 10 Games from the 90's?

I think you could literally have 100 people reply without one list being identical.

Anyway, it is way to hard to boil those ten years of great games down to a list of just ten games. Here is my... attempt to make this list (I know i forgot like 300 more games that should be in this list :P ).

10. Super Smash Bros.

9. Blast Corps

8. Monster Rancher

7. E.V.O. Search for Eden

6. Banjo Kazooie

5. Super Mario RPG: Legend of The Seven Stars

4. Total Annihilation

3. Star Ocean: The Second Story

2. Final Fantasy Tactics

1. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
